Pluto Trigger

Has anyone used this trigger? Looks to be kind of new, i am interested in this for lightning photography, reviews i have seen so far are favorable and the price is right. Anyone have any experience with this?

I got one recently, along with "The Valve". It's been too cold play with it for anything outdoors, but I did a few water drop photos. This one is milk with food coloring.

If purchasing the valve, set it up and use it within the 14 day warranty period. I purchased some time ago, and finally got the time to use the Pluto and Valve. The valve didn't work, and after three weeks of countless emails I've yet to hear from Pluto in terms of repair. So, I just ordered another one.....and I'll make sure it's in working order on the very first day.

Did yours not work at all, or what? Mine is kind of buggy. It does more than two drops.

On another note, the Pluto does not trigger my camera reliably. It never triggers the camera on the first shot after changing the setting in the app. And on the second shot it always misses the drops. I'm using a Canon camera with wired connection between the Pluto and camera.

Mine never worked.... And, they never responded to my request(s).

Finally heard from Pluto (thank goodness). They've refunded my initial purchase.

Anyone know how I trigger a Canon DSLR with infrared remote? I've had seven Canon DSLR's and the only way that I know to do that is to put the camera in 2 or 10 second timer mode, which I don't think will will work for "high speed" triggering.

The Pluto manual states: "If you would like to take photo of high speed object, you should trigger flash rather than camera. In Flash method, the camera port of Pluto Trigger is connected to flashgun, and the camera is triggered by sound with infrared remote, Pluto Trigger should point to the camera. It may not be easy to adjust the angle of Pluto Trigger, because it need send infrared signal to camera and also receive laser beam from laser pointer. Set your camera to IR remote mode and shutter speed to about 2 seconds."

The Pluto approach is archaic in my view.
Much better to use the Pluto to trigger the camera and have the camera trigger the lights.
Thing to remember is that everything is related to the drop from the value.

The easiest approach, which I've used often, is to start with just the first drop. start with a delay of 100ms and see what the image looks like. Increase or decrease the number until you get a tall spout. Then add the second drop.

Like everything else in liquid drop photography it takes a lot of fine tuning to get optimum results.

Every Canon DSLR I have had only does infared triggering in two or ten second timer mode.
