Canon vs. Third Party is really personal preference. I own more Sigma lenses than Canon and am very happy with them.

As for use on a crop camera, you might also want to look at the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and 50-100mm f/1.8, they're crop-only lenses but make a great pair for low light shooting (I have both).

I shoot 90% of the day with a 35/85 combo. If i need to go wider for something then I'll use 24-70... but for the most, 35-85 works for me.

1 x Nikon D810 - 2 x Nikon D750 - Nikon 24-70 2.8G - Sigma 35mm 1.4Art - Sigma 50mm 1.4Art- Nikon 85mm 1.4G - Lots of lights and other stuffs.

I have a 7D Mark II ,does the 24-70 need to be a canon lens? It’s out of my budget to buy even used. What about a Sigma 24-70 f 2.8?

The 24-70 2.8 version 1 is a real bargain in the used market.
