Time for some sports photos. Daylight baseball game so I broke out the Canon 100-400 F/4.5-5.6 II. Not a 400 F2.8 prime but I have to work with what I have.

Mainly some pitcher photos.

Note: They looked better in LR before I exported them to Flickr.

Martin D ,I suspect you will not notice much of a bump in pic quality. But ,,the extra frames per sec could be helpful in some situations,,,and the massive amount of settings you can configure to your own personal needs will be a plus,,but can also be confusing at first to get things set up. You will also need reasonably fast Cards to take advantage of the high frame rate if you shoot at the highest Quality raw. If you use the flip out screen alot on your 77d,,you will miss that. Suspect but don't know you might gain some auto focus speed.

Yesterday,,people thought I was the best thing since sliced bread,,,,,to-day I am toast !

Although your shots a bit noisy i don't find them that bad, the thing that always stands out to me is the white balance and lack of colour saturation, this last one looks quite green to me.

As we don't know what you are doing in post processing it would be nice if you could somehow post an unprocessed raw file for other people to play with.
I suspect that you may be under exposing then pulling the histogram a bit too much.

EDIT .....
I have now looked at your Flickr page and can see that you have a lot of great shots there that are all well exposed and have good colour balance but they all seem to have been taken with other cameras, so is it just the 7D2 you are struggling with or is it the indoor basketball lighting.

In addition to what Ramon-uk said...

What are your other settings on the 7d2?
Metering, white balance, focus type, etc

Recently picked up a Sigma 150-600 C and want to dive into some Wildlife photography - Currently pairing it with the 6D and 77D the latter belonging to the wife! - Do you think there will be a noticeable difference in image quality if I upgraded the 77D to the 7D Mark II?

Thank you for any info

short answer is no there won’t be a difference in IQ however the 7D Mk ll opens up wildlife opportunities that the 77D does not have.

Why 1/1250? You could have easily froze the action at 1/400, allowing a lower ISO..

I occasionally get motion blur with high school basketball when using 1/640 sec. There is a 100% chance of getting lots of motion blur at 1/400 sec.

The noise in your photo looks like ISO 16000 from my camera.

I try not to shoot anything under 1/1000 sec in college basketball. I can deal with noise but can't do anything about motion blur.

Got my 7Dii this week, today was the first chance I got to go out. It's a grey dreary day but I was able to see what she's capable of. I am blown away coming from the 5Dc and 6D, this is a completely different beast when it comes to things that move. I can't wait to figure out how to properly use it.

Edit- not sure why the exif is showing the 70-200 when I was using the Sigma 150-600c?

On my EXIF reader, it is actually showing the the EF 100-400 as the lens model and the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary as what my EXIF reader calls "lens". Not sure why it references both lenses, but probably due to an issue the EXIF software have identifying Sigma models.
