No love for the "new" fe Sigma 24 f1. 4? I mean I know it's massive, but is we compare the FE 35 1.4 art vs the Sigma 35 art, a truly native version would be about the same size.

no for me, however I did find an interesting tidbit from FM about the sigma release:

"While offering the same high-performance optical design as other lenses in the Art line, the new Sony E-mount models will feature a newly developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed. In addition, these lenses will be compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF (AF-C) and high-speed autofocus, which are not addressed by SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11."

so they will perform better...... I'm hoping sigma will allow canon mount lenses the conversion service because I'de hate to sell and buy if I could avoid. I'm happy with the 135A size and all, would be better if it had a stepper motor, but can be forgiven if it can do 10fps like native lenses ;-)a

EDIT: should have read the whole article, mount conversion service available!!!

Jason has been shooting the with the A7III for a while.
Being a Sony Artisan, of coarse his review need to be taken with a grain of salt. . .

Sweet. I wonder how much the conversion costs

no pricing info yet, but their site states $80-$250, hoping it's closer to the $80 side of things :p

Of course I think I may wait a few months after release to do the conversion if all the bugs worked out. My 135 basically goes into hibernation during the summer months, hopefully it will be out and resolved by then.

another thing is that per their website, you have to be the original owner. Assuming that the warranty was never registered, they probably wouldnt know.

As long as the Sigma FE35 is smaller and cheaper than the Sony f/1.4 I'm still a little interested..... ;-)a

Id have to do a bit of googling but I dont think it will be. The current canon mount is similar size to the sony but the FE sigma will have an adaptor/spacer bolted on the back so my guess is it will be bigger and heavier

I'm just going by the initial specs of it sitting in between the FE 35 2.8 and the Sony 1.4 in both size and weight..... We'll see I guess...!

If not, I guess I've saved myself a few quid :-) I might still sell the CV40 though, just never use it any more.

and the new Sigma ART lineup for Sony E-mount, I think, is not what all where waiting for.
If AF will be top notch, could live with that, but size wise it is the same DSLR lens with adapter.

Back when I shot Canon, I found myself rarely reaching for my Sigma 50 A. Sure, it was the sharpest lens I owned, but AF felt sluggish and the colors were too green. Because of this I almost always used my 24-70 in 50mm situations, even though it was only a 2.8 vs. 1.4. But the 50 was basically the same size as the 24-70. After getting the zoom I maybe brought the 50 out less than 10 times before selling it about a year later. Since then Sigma Art lenses no longer interest me.

I can see how portrait shooters who like those dark green murky undertones would love the Sigma Art series, but most of my portraits are pretty true to life colors.

Canon version Sigma 35mm Art weighs 23.46 oz (665g). Add 4-5oz for adapter.

Sony FE 35mm weighs 22.24 oz (630g).

So, the Sony 35 will likely remain lighter/smaller than the Sigma after conversion, though maybe having an adapter built in will save a little weight.

At 24mm I’d think Sony could get an even smaller 24 1.4 than the Sigma. However, yeah the Sigma 24mm will remain highly appealing simply because of the image quality and low cost.

Although the Sigma announcement of their new FE hack lens lineup kind of went up like a lead balloon, the performance and price of their lenses are still going to woo a lot of Sony users. Sony shouldn’t leave it to third parties to fill in the holes of their lens lineup though.

Yeah was hoping for that too but think that was a bit of misinformation on SAR. If the sigma 35 FE is £600 though then that could change things

Well Uljens glad we agree to agree for the most part ;)
I did admit most will never need 20fps.

Now consider this....if the 7 iii had been 30mpx then it would have been the greatest all arounder ever ever made.
Not that 24mpx is that far off 30mpx when linear resolution is considered.....but the Canonistas will say 'oh my 5Div
beats it on resolution'.

I am looking forward to the sitting in the puddle of water test though.

Sony: 693 AF points, Face detection / Eye-AF, 15 stops DR, 10fps, tilting screen

Canon: 6 more MP.

Yeah. That sort of price could tempt me. But again, I don't really want to be carrying around a big heavy lens either when I do have a perfect performing f/2.8 ;-)a It'll be if that is worth the trade of the shallower DOF..... The other thing for me is I'm still on the A7 so anything adapted is out of the question too.....

I have nothing against the 24A, and I would be interested if there was an a-mount version.

That said, it is surprising that Sony or Zeiss hasn't made a 24 1.4 to pit against the Canon and Nikon versions. Yes, the 24 SSM and 25 Batis are really good pieces of glass but having nothing past f2 from Sony or Zeiss at that FL for A or FE seems--complacent?

As a 37 year old child in 1986 working in Santa Clara [Silicon Valley] in IT myself (Systems Software Engineering) and 5 Irish hardware guys from Amdahl’s mainframe manufacturing site in Dublin entered Disneyland in LA at 10:15 one day and came out at 01:30 am next morning!
I was the biggest of all kids on the block. It was a holiday weekend and very busy but everything flowed well.
