Im wondering if they have actually changed the focus motors too? Im not very technical when it comes to this stuff but their press release states that the AF is optimised for Sonys hybrid AF system and I thought thats what the adapted canon mount versions struggle with? So in addition to bolting a spacer on the back with the sony mount do you think they have changed out the motors and kept the lens elements and the casing? Could that be what took time?

seriously doubt it

from what I can tell about the Sigma 30 e-mount, it has a loud focus motor for video, so it's probably USM/HSM style. The conversion service exists! So they'll swap out the mount for $80-250, with that sort of price, doubt they'll change out the focus motors as well.

I'm sure they can make it work with USM motors, because it does eye AF just fine as is, however it wont be optimal and probably wont track as well as native with STM motors.

That said, I'm happy with the AF ability of the lens, would love if it were stepper motor for the occasional videos I do with it, but I have workarounds like shooting the 85 in crop mode if I really need faster Video AF.

This is the blurb I was referring to -

“While offering the same high-performance optical design as other lenses in the Art line, the new Sony E-mount models will feature a newly developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed. In addition, these lenses will be compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF (AF-C) and high-speed autofocus, which are not addressed by SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11. Like the converter MC-11, the lenses will be compatible with in-camera image stabilization and in-camera lens aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, and distortion.”

Doesn’t quite say what I had thought it had

From my impression of the released lenses, I think what sigma is doing is customized firmware for every lens, and the MC-11 wouldnt be able to hold all that data.

I think that's why sigma hasnt included the 24-105, 24-70, 120-300, 150-600 and 500. The last three arguably most needed in sony's lineup, and would be big regardless.

It would be grand if manufacturers would provide a yearly-updated road map of their planned product releases. They don’t have to promise dates or features, just say what they plan to be working on. Recent camera releases by Sony have created a fog of confusion.

When the a9 was released many have just assumed there will be an a9R and maybe an a9S. Is that true though? I have my doubts. Sony could tell us.

Likewise, after the a7R III was released I saw commenters on forums like this suggest that there probably wouldn’t be an a7 III, yet here we are.

And even lately I’ve seen the suggestion that there might not be an a7S III. The a7 III looks to be marvelous for video, so should a7S II owners jump on the a7 III? Again, Sony could easily help out their customers saying “yes/no” they are working on an a7S III and “yes/no” it’s next in the queue. Again, they don’t need to promise a shipping date or provide any specs.

Yep the blind leaks :( But I did throw a cover over the top for the camera.

Well imagine that POTN doesn't recognize the A7Riii + MBv + 400DOii

This BB is in for a rude awakening thinking spring it here.

In my quest to upgrade from my A7mkii to the new A7mkiii, I have hit a 5 foot 2 inch brick wall called the wife.

This is going to take more work than I was hoping :P

I have zero regrets about my a9..it's isn't going anywhere, I love it through and through.

In really doubt it...I know we can recover a lot, and I have done it for architecture, it still gets noisy
..why make claims like that...just be honest about it...good work is good, no matter how you get there.

And I got approved for Sony Pro! Woohoo!

i know i really doubt it too because I tried with one of my window exposure yesterday and I cannot get it as clean(A7R3 at ISO100). Even if you use luminosity mask because you're masking-in the same files with noise. Maybe it's the reason why he wouldn't share his workflow, just a before and after. I asked him in facebook and he's not sharing. it's ok though. it's his Krabby Patty Secret Formula. :) He has every right to keep it to himself.

Congrats. Does an a6000 plus a7RII qualify me? I have one GM lens and several Loxia lenses.

I got approved with the A6000 and the A7RII. Try.

Robert - you asked me about snow the other day and I said it was gone, well it came back with a vengeance today. Most of the country stuck at home and told not to travel tomorrow. In addition they have issues a red weather warning for the first time ever meaning “risk to life” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk …-alert-risk-life-12102130 (external link)
