Still impressed with the amount of detail this combo manages to collect, not the prettiest of subjects BUT think it's shows itself off very well.

Quick question.. is it worth picking up a used 5D Mark III with 136 000 on the shutter counter ? i can get it from a friend who sells it for 500 euros. He's moving on to mirrorless toycameras and dumping his Canon gear cheap just to get rid of it. :)

The shutter 'should' hopefully last beyond 150 000 but i guess it's a bit of a gamble..

Magnus, I literally just made a purchase of a 5D3 with almost 300K actuations on the shutter. I looked into replacing the shutter and it will cost about $400 US. So for the price, even if I had to replace the shutter, I am still way better off to have it.
So even if it only lasted as long as mine, you still have over 150k left in the shutter.

Wow, 300K exposures! that's a lot for a 5D3. I would never have bought that. Only $400 to replace the shutter sounds cheap, here in Sweden a shutter replacement costs 800-900 euros, it's awfully expensive.

Thanks for your reply sirquack, i'm off to pick this one up in a couple of hours. Hopefully it lasts for quite some time.

/ Magnus

Definitely seems more expensive there in Sweden, but you have a lot of beautiful places to take photos, so maybe that has something to do with it. I have other friends who have other 5D models and they have as much or more clicks on their cameras. So I fully expect the one you are looking at will be fine for a long time.
Looking forward to seeing your images on this site for some time to come.
