I took up running again too.

I hit the weights pretty consistently each week, but it doesn't do much for the cardiovascular system and the calorie burn isn't there. So yeah after all the stuff I went through last year, I packed on 20lbs.

Once I started running again and lit the cardio furnace, everything else health-wise clicked. Diet cleaned up because I stopped craving crap food, and the added physical activity each day has my body begging for the bed by 9pm. I started counting calories and nutrition too...mainly to make sure I'm consuming the right amount of calories as I overdid the diet at one point and got nasty flu like fatigue from starvation mode kicking in. Myfitness-pal app + samsung gear fit pro has helped me stay on top of things. Cool thing is that I'm finding I can still 'budget' things like 2 slices of papa john's large pizza and hit my goals for the day if I'm good the earlier part of the day :-)

I'm down 8 lbs so far!

Cardio is totally where it's at. Create a calorie deficit and the pounds will melt away. It's actually pretty amazing! Most of the year I try to spend 6-8 hours a week cycling.

I tried keto this year for the first time. Lost 14 pounds between jan 2nd and Feb 2nd. Came of it in Feb though but planning on going back to it from tomorrow. Takes a 3-4 days to get into ketosis but once there it’s easy to eat in a deficit as the hunger and cravings just disappear. I use myfitnesspal app and a Fitbit. Daily macros is 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbs.

If you are still of the old (wrong) mindset that dietary fat causes heart disease and cholesterol you should do a bit of reading up on all the new clinical studies showing that it’s simply untrue. Refined carbs are what will kill you, sugar especially.

I know this isn't the typical picture you see on this thread but I thought it was kinda cool. I put the camera on a tripod on my way home from doing some time lapse video work earlier. Set it to a long exposure to see what I would get.

You should post this in this weeks 52 week photo thread as the theme is “motion”. You have actually taken the same shot I was planning :-) . I was also going to take it last week when the theme was cinematic and give it a cinematic edit

Haha I was planning the same shot for the 52 week theme. Nice work.

I mainly want it so that I can carry two cameras at a time. A9 for the main af camera and then either a landscape lens or a fun Lens or another af lens of different focal length on the a7rii so that I can flip between them. 24-70GM on the a9 and batis 85 on the a7rii for example. Having said that I’m sure I can live with the frustration of different controls

i dont find it that annoying really - but im no pro and i dont shoot stressful situations - i can imagine the frustrations it can lead to under those scenarios though

Insomnia sucks. I have a buddy that's a sleep specialist MD. I have no idea what your routine is but he tells me 99% of routine insomnia is secondary to poor sleep hygiene. I totally agree with Charlie with regards to increasing exercise. Getting yourself physically worn out is a great first step. Second.....Turn off the computers/screens a couple hours before bed. As you are surely aware, the screen will stimulate brain activity preventing it from mellowing out when you are trying to fall asleep. Not preaching at all....just tossing it out there for sake of discussion this morning while perusing the lounge thread.

Good stuff Cory. Thanks for your suggestions! :)

David, have you tried a kindle? I don’t suffer from insomnia but some nights my mind races with work stuff and I just can’t switch off and fall asleep. I find that reading a kindle paperwhite gets me sleepy in no time (reading in bed)

This is why I like the lounge.....it's chill and no one cares if we digress from time to time. This thread is really the only place I routinely participate online. I don't spend a ton of time on FM or DP. I don't have Facebook, twitter, or IG.

So is the a7iii likely to af better than the a7riii? Is that what these headline numbers are saying?

Completely agree. It’s so chill here that I can share this inspiration. By the way, I am on too many social apps. I think I will stop posting to 500px. Keep IG and Flickr and see where Vero goes.

a9 only has 13.3 stops DR at base ISO, if I recall correctly. Still, excellent DR though...especially for non-landscape shooting.

It is indeed 16 years old but gives a good summary of the situation and was quite a revelation to many when published. If you want something more up to date (2014) I recommend this book - https://www.amazon.co.uk …ect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 (external link)

Alternatively check out joe rogans podcasts with dominic d'agostino who is a leading expert on the subject. He has been on the podcast numerous times
