Interesting ... getting pretty much the same effect. I assume without additional manipulation of blur in post.

I have the 85 f/1.2 L and it is by far my favourite lens for portraits. But, even shooting wide-open, I always tend to look for neutral and unobtrusive backgrounds and have never experimented with backgrounds that include as much contrast and colour as some of these. Looks like I should maybe be bolder!

You should!
Her is a shot I took but with the 135mm at f2 and the blur is gorgeous. Now imagine what's like with the killer 85mm :)

In response to PExpos photos

I would almost bet a dollar to a donut hole that they were shot in Hobby Lobby...

A little too much blur for me but generally always excellent.

LOL!!! Note to me: Read the post before betting!

I was going on something I saw on the net recently about Hobby Lobby getting PO'd about photographers shooting in the stores...

Northeast Georgia? I could deliver as I frequent that area.

The blur is 100% real with the 1.2 aperture, no added blur in post. I do prefer the 135mm f2 over the 85mm f1.2 but i do love both lenses and I wasn't lugging in the 135mm into a Michael's store. Yes Hobby Lobby was PO'd about the viral challenge in their stores so Michael's stores responded by encouraging mini photo shoots in their stores and asking to see the results so I participated. I love prime lenses and the bokeh from shooting wide open but obviously it's not everyone's cup of tea. To each their own, the only thing I could have done to reduce the bokeh was close it up more and increase ISO but no thank you, lol. -Karissa

Speaking for myself, I went through some of your previous shots and I prefer the bokeh from the 135. Smooth like butter!

Great shots of a beautiful model!

Thanks! I also really love the look of the shots from the 135mm f2 but ya definitely requires quite some distance from the subject so knowing I was going to be indoors and have to potentially deal with shopping customers, I wanted to stay out of the way and take up as little space as possible, haha. Plus i wasn't sure how the lighting situation so it didn't hurt to have a lens that lets in more light. Ya Michael's itself started the challenge and hashtag. I think they're definitely after some publicity, this is their Facebook post about it.
