Before buying the Samyang i’ve tried both and for about 40% of the price you pay for the Zeiss 35mm i found the Samyang 35mm the better choice. IQ and AF are so close it’s hard to decide who’s faster or to see differance in sharpness or contrast.
Only thing is the Zeiss is more consistent in build quality, there are some Samyang lenses that i.m.o. should never have passed quality controle and found to be OK for shipping.
First 35mm i had looked like the AF motor was working in a bowl of bolts, lost of noise and indeed slow AF. Didn’t except that one and the sales guy picked out 2 others to try, both were very quiet and just as fast and accurate on AF as the Zeiss 35mm.
For example the Sony 50mm f/1.8 is much slower and, although some ownership are real pleased with it, is i.m.o. almost to slow to work with in low light conditions. Faster objects are real hard to AF correctly, the Samyang for example didn’t have any problem following kids playing inside and focus correctly.
Already there are some good reviews out there, just small favore on the Zeiss because of build quality.
Got the Samyang with a 5 year warranty, so for less then €300- it’s a great buy.
Yes Zeiss sounds cooler and more pro, if thats no isseu for you then better buy the Samyang
