I'm starting to see people rave about metabones V (5th generation).

I’ll let you know Tuesday. My R3 and metabones V will be delivered Monday.

Where did you get the grip? Is it just an a7Riii grip?

Yes it is

Canon user since film days. Really impressed by the eye focus on this camera. However, just purchased the 5D4 so I am in for a while now. I was wondering what kind of support from Sony you guys/gals have experienced if you had to send it iin for repairs? Cost, time out, etc?

thanks

All this a7III talk is getting the GAS going good and hard.

One one hand, it doesn't make any sense for me to switch because I'm happy with IQ/AF/handling/interface of the a99ii. High ISO performance is better than its DXO measurement IMO, and not real different from my old a7r (which I found good).

But on the other hand, I miss being able to slap on a small-ish fast prime and walk around with an unobtrusive rig. The a99ii is small for a FF body, but still noticeably bigger than its e-mount cousins.

I'm not unhappy with my battery life, but the new battery of the geniii bodies is appealing.

Same here, and I'm on my 2nd 5D4 that I just got in December, not even broken in yet. I got to speak to the Sony techs at WPPI, seems like a solid deal if you need repair or cleaning. Time will tell, I'm keeping the 5D4 for now, but like I said, after using the A7III it was hard to pick up the 5D4 again. The A7RIII on the other hand I wasn't impressed, weird!

I've never been so keen on trying something new!!

The A7iii is on my radar due to cost and performance. Also the bridge to my Canon L glass.

Now I'm considering the A7Riii due to the pixel count. That would be my camera I'd choose when I kinda feel like having more mega pixels to play with.

The 5dmk4 has been a very enjoyable camera to use...... I'll admit the sticker price is painful but it does do what I'd ever really demand.

I think this new A7iii is an evil offering to mirrored Canon users LOL!!! It now entices people to try the sony mirrorless land. Heck if we were talking 10yrs back we'd be all talking going to the "Darkside" (Nikon) if you were a Canon shooter LOL!!

I was enlightened by the Sony dark side :-P
I honestly picked up the A7III thinking it would be worse than the A7RIII! Thinking back, I should not even have tried it, at least I would be able to sleep at night!

The Camera Store has a new video showing the AF performance of the adapters (Sigma, Metabones, and Comlite).
They show that the Sigma MC-11 adapter works better than Metabones on Sigma lenses, but worse on Canon lenses.
I'm blown away by the Comlite Nikon-to-Sony adapter. Being able to get AF on a Nikon lens has been impossible till now. Sure, it's not as quick as Canon-mount adapters, but they're seriously opening up the range of Nikon lenses to Sony users now.

One final note. As I've mentioned before, I've owned Metabones IV and Sigma MC-11 adapters. And I have to tell you that when I tested both on my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS, the extreme corners went really soft. The Metabones IV adapter, though, gave me pretty much identical sharpness as when the lens was on my 5DS R. Interestingly Tony Northrup details the exact same sharpness issue with the MC-11 on his channel. So, keep in mind that this video only reviews AF performance and they aren't looking at the sharpness performance.

If your name is Talley and you're bringing a bag full of Sigma lenses to the a7R III, then a Sigma MC-11 adapter makes a lot of sense. Talley probably should buy both MC-11 - to use with his Sigmas and - and the Metabones V to get the most from his 200L.

well that stinks. I got the metabones. In the end I'll end up only adapting my sigma stuff. ugh.

Also... only way to really do the swap would be to sell the 200/2. This would be buying the A7R3 and the A73 (for the wife) but really we could then swap around bodies as needed.

Here is my sell list vs buy list. I planned on keeping the 35 and 85 arts and pick up a 135 to replace my 200/2.... :(

Basically I'm out just buying the 135... this is assuming I return the metabones and use the MC-11

Very surprising finding with the mc11, will borrow my buddies adapter when I shoot again, but I’m almost done this year.

Talley, try the mc11 first I’de say, it might work well with the 200, the adapter difference isn’t the same with every lens.

Man...Sigma adapter and lens did quite well on the test "outside" in that video.

I guess I'm stuck with a Metabone v.5 for the A7iii.

Sigma adapter does better with Sigma lenses....Metabones better with Canon lenses....you got Canon lenses, so you got the right thing. :)
