Yeah, I have to avoid the siren song and not accelerate my plan.

My plan is this. Use the Sony with 28/2, 55/1.8 and adapted Canon through 2018. I'll continue to use the 5D Mark III for action work. The idea is to play with the Sony A7rIII and make sure I really like it - EVF, form, controls, ergonomics and all. If I do, then I will move over wholesale.

The cautious approach obviously has it's advantages. Also, I have a pretty big kayak adventure planned this summer and the idea of two bodies is appealing in case i manage to kill one, which is always more likely when kayaking than anything else I do.

The problem with my approach is that I'm not really going to get a chance to test the Sony for action unless I get a native telephoto. I'm already realizing that nothing I do with the 28 and 55 lenses tell me anything about how the Sony does with action. I think I'm going to have to grab an FE 100-400 at some point just to see how that compares to my Canon 5D3 + 100-400/IS II.

good plan. can I suggest getting a 55-210.it isn't the best lens out there but it is ok and gives you a 300mm due to crop - you end up with only 18mp though but doable. I used it during the last tokyo marathon and it was really ok. granted marathons aren't fast paced but it gives you a chance to play around for a very small investment.

Kinda grumpy right now. Was just about to reserve a campsite at St. George Island State Park (FL) - the only one left available in the campground for the next two months - and just as I was clicking to reserve someone else snatched it.

Really makes me feel crappy.vmad

Now to look for somewhere else. Any suggestions?

will a link to a CV 40 1.2 cheer you up?? :evil::evil::evil:

Sure - Lake Superior Provincial Park, just 85km north of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. One of my favorite places anywhere and just 7.5 hours drive from my house.

Or did you mean now, this time of year?

But really....this place:

i love long exposures but this time i think i like the one on the left. Like David said. it has more character.

same the left one feels so sereneat least the warmth makes me feel that

but I would vote for the prior comment of combining the images

so this was the one image that I came away from the lake with, knowing it would be my favorite...I thought I was going to have to do a bunch of blending for the foreground and the sky, but I ended up just using one frame and it was easier, the shadow recovery abilities of this body still surprise me even after 2 years...it made editing it so much easier with the rough conditions on the water.

Its not some grand, epic landscape...I am itching to get out and shoot...headed to CA in about two weeks...hoping to get some shutter therapy in there with a friend while we explore places around the bay area.

Quick question for you architecture guys.... Any reason to use a tilt shift lens these days or is correcting perspective distortion in post adequate these days. Obviously there is a resolution penalty when you aggressively correct distortion in post.

I would still go TSE...when correcting in post you can get ugly distortion and a loss of IQ if you have to correct too much.

I guess it all depends how particular your client is. If the intention is to create posters for office space, probably go TS, if not shoot wide + level, crop in post

A TSE lens will get you the best results. I have a good workaround that has produced some nice results for my clients. It employs a tilt lock on my ballhead to lock the camera so it can only move on a vertical plane. The rest is done in post.
