*Crosspost from 1DxII sample thread

Decided to cut out of my office early today to hike a bit for my birthday, and never could have expected to come across one of my all-time bucket list animals – a snowy owl! Having recently moved from Florida to New England, and then being out of town for nearly 3 winter months in a row, I haven't had an opportunity this year to go out and see these guys yet. I knew they were around the area all winter, but seeing one in person was absolutely incredible. Couldn't have asked for a better birthday gift!

Hey Justin! Please PM me. I can't reach out to your about your 24-35 because I don't have enough posts.

Forum gods, please don't banish me to oblivion. I just don't want to spam the lens sample threads to get the post count to be able to send PMs or reply to FS threads.

Hello.
I bought a Canon 400mm DO IS lens with the UQ code number (2002) in very good condition, and I wanted to ask you if it's true that later the lenses were corrected in it?
Until when were these lenses produced?

Thank you in advance

Canon's original 400DO was shown as a prototype in 2000 and first released in 2001 or 2002. I remember those rumors about the improvements made after the earliest versions, but don't recall any specific information. I bought mine in Sept. 2005 and had zero problems with it. I did have to stop it down by 2/3 f/stop to get better sharpness. I replaced mine with a 400DOii in fall, 2015, when they first came out. Production of the original version would have been discontinued well before that.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to the mikevan :-)
Or do you know when these lenses were produced, because you can see the UX (2009) and UY (2010) codes on the market?

While searching my files for a Texas bird to print for an old time Texan pal of mine, I found these two examples, from long, long ago. They reminded me how much I enjoyed my 400 DO, which I used for 10 years. My new 400 DO ii is sharper, wide open, and the IS is considerably improved, but I fondly remember that original 400 DO.

The Mockingbird image is cropped a bit, the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is nearly the entire sensor.

Does 7D2 auto focus work with all points with this lens?? Thanks.. Thinking about used one.. Is MK II worth the diff in price of 2k? (I know subjective)

I bought mine a few months ago. It seems a little inconsistent as far as focusing goes. But when it’s on it’s sharp.

1) Yes, bare and with 1.4 extender.

2) Yes, I loved my original 400 DO but the DOii is noticeably sharper wide open, with better IS. Of course, $2000 is a lot of money. If you have arthritic hands, as I do, either DO is worth every penny.

Best of luck to you, whatever your choice. This image is from my original DO, six years ago.

Outstanding image, perhaps sharper than the sparrow. He must have let you get close, wonderful detail in his fur and in the eye reflection.
