It’s a visible effect in the EVF or Liveview screen. I tested mine and found I could get around 7-stops of darkening on the Batis 25mm before getting the uneven shading, but only 5-stops on the Batis 18mm.
I suppose the best way to avoid the issue is to be fully aware that the bad effect
will happen if you go too dark and to look for it when dialing up the darkness. Be especially cautious with lenses wider than 35mm.
If I ever had a screw-up and got that uneven shading from a taken shot, then I don’t remember it.
maybe the 16mm end of a 16-35L was the issue, because we had the crazy cross pattern through the whole adjustment of the filter, from as little as possible to as much as possible...and since a lot of my LE photography is wide angle...it makes no sense for me to invest in something that might ruin my image.

If I can do it anyone can. I even bought a loop to actually see the gunk on the sensor.
Do you have an Arctic Butterfly yet? Highly recommended as the intermediary step between in-camera shaky shake cleaning and the wet process.
I don't have one of those yet...but I really need to clean both sensors before my trip next week...I got most of the stuff off both of them with the rocket blower, but there are some that are still there.
