Thanks guys for the great information. Just doing some tutorial stuff on the web I see that there is a lot that goes into capturing LE depending on what you're shooting. The ND filter I got is a screw on and it has male and female threads....so if I wanted to get a 6 stop ND as well I could screw that onto the 10 stop and make it a 16 stop in case I wanted to shoot in the midday? Is that really going to degrade the picture by stacking screw on filters together like that or am I better off just using the 10 stop ND in combination with the Smooth Reflections app to make up the difference?
Stacking filters should be avoided as much as possible. If said filters arent well coated, they can produce all sorts of reflections.
10 stop + smooth reflections is my preference, I have a 16 stop firecrest, and it's kind of difficult to work with. You cant bail out earlier if rolling clouds show up and change the exposure. It's also totally dark, so if you accidentally bump your focus settings, take off the filter, focus, put on the filter. With a 10 stop, you can often focus ok even with the filter on.
DR on smooth reflection + 10 stop is considerably better, and you wont have problems nailing exposure.
