Thanks, it works well. The 2x also works well although the tracking AF suffers a little for flight shots. For most things the 2x works great, though, and IQ is just wonderful. The beauty of the 300 and 2x combo is that it is relatively (!) portable and much easier to deal with than the 500 or 600. I have used the 500 extensively and although it is a spectacular lens, its bulk and size are a real pain after a while!! I know the 300 combo was a compromise but so far it has served me well on both FF and crop bodies. Also it retains full AF at 5.6 with the 2x which is a big plus.
