Remember my recommendation of the RX10iv for someone who might want to dabble in wildlife/BIF before adding
a dedicated wildlife/BIF rig?
Here is example of where I think the RX10iv got the shot but I probably would not have been fast enough on the draw
with the a9+100400 due to weight.
I still wasn't quite fast enough for perfectly square up with the bierd but close enough for me to appreciate the
RX10iv's AF-

I am doing this, just ordered the RX10 IV, hasn't arrived yet. Made the decision in no small part due to the huge thread of bird shots taken with the RX10 over at FredMiranda.
I would love to get to the point where I outgrow the RX10 for BIF, but I'm nowhere near that yet, and it is so much cheaper than the 100-400 + extender! I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun with it.
Thanks very much for your contributions here and over at FM!

Just messing around with the Contax 100-300, haven't had a lot of opportunity to play around with this lens. Here's a crop of my Britanny Casey shot at 300mm after an unfortunate session with the groomer, something he isn't particularly fond of.

Well....I've finally replaced my 1dx2 with the A9. I've also purchased 24-70 f2.8GM, 70-200 f2.8GM, and 100-400 f4.5-5.6GM lenses. I also have the 2x telecoverter coming in next week.

Haven't had the chance to shoot much, but was able to snap a few and with the 100-400. Both shots (seriously cropped) were hand held during the day (around 3:30pm). The plane shot was amazing because the A9 was completely turned off and hanging off my side. That plane was at least 500ft-1000ft, maybe higher. We were flying our drones at a park approx. 5 miles from an airport (and yes, I notified the control tower). One of my friends said, "Check out that plane." I looked up, saw the plane almost directly over us. I quickly grabbed my A9, turned it on while rotating focal ring to 400mm and while swinging the camera towards my eye to find the plane. A9 was set to AF-C, Single Shot. I pressed the shutter release button several times to capture shots of that plane already over our heads. I think the focus area was set to Lock-on: Flexible Spot L. Very impressed with the speed at which it acquired focus and how it locked onto it.

Amazing!!! Incredible!!!

Ok, so I’m here and have 5 full days starting tomorrow. If I do decide to go to Mesa can I ask what 35mm equiv (FF) focal length people shoot at this location?

Bianchi...what FL was your shot made?

5280Pics....what FL was your shot made?

MedMan.....your FL?

I don’t want to show up and fumble as it will be crazy early and it’ll likely be combat photography.

That said, no one hate on me if I flake on Mesa. It will require a mega early mission (which admittedly I’m not good at) and I don’t do combat photography. But, it is an iconic shot and I’d love to try one myself.

That was at 11mm on a crop sensor. I may have cropped a bit, I cannot recall...

I was out at 5am for shooting this morning, much less epic scenery.

I’de bring an utrawide zoom or stitch if needed. Zooms were made for unknown territory

I was very close to pull the trigger on a very nice copy of the 100-300, no denying, it renders beautifully.. However, I'll probably go for the 100-400 G taking the more conservative approach, due to the possibly of haze and separation of balsam down the road.

I took a zoom. The SEL 10-18mm on my original A7R. Focal length of the
shot was 11mm.
