They also came up with Dazzle Camouflage in World War One.
The Dazzle Ferry is part of the WW1 commemorations in Liverpool.

Border Force is the equivalent to ICE in the US. Originally we had HM Customs and Excise, and as part of the anti smuggling efforts in the 18th Century they also ran the Coastguard. For many years For several hundred years this was fine, and HMC&E effectively protected the border as part of it's duties. With the advent of the large number of people migrating to northern europe, and the fact that we speak English, and have a relatively generous welfare state system the UK became a very popular destination for many. With the very large rise in the number of those coming to the UK without the correct documentation, and a desire by the government to separate the border protection work, we now have the Border Force. Here are two shots of the cutter Valiant, The first when she was still with HM Customs, the other after the change to the Border Force branding.

As to the name Nimrod, Nimrod was King of Shinar which was part of Mesopotamia/Assyria and supposedly the great great grandson of Noah. He was known as the Mighty Hunter in the bible. The RAF/Fleet Air Arm have had two different types with the name Nimrod. Back in the 30's the FAA had the Hawker Nimrod, a single engined fighter very similar to the more famous biplane Fury. There were two marks of this Nimrod, and the pair of aircraft in the photo represent one of each mark.

The other was the De Havilland/Hawker Siddeley maritime patrol aircraft based on the worlds very first jet airliner the Comet. This Nimrod held the record for having the largest internal bombay of any military aircraft. I'm afraid that I don't have a photo of this Nimrod though.

Hi yes the border force and the coastguard here do roughly the same tasks , I believe the name Nimrod comes from the name of a biblical hunter , we have an aircraft by the same name which is a , Intelligence Surveillance Targeting Acquisition Reconnaissance (ISTAR) aircraft. Not sure what the name might mean over there , I can only guess mmmmm.
