I have a beholder ds2. It's on the smaller side of gimbals that will stabilize an a7x body, but it's not at all compact. I brought it to Disney and ended up leaving it in the hotel lol. I have a ms1 that is reasonably compact, but the only thing it could stabilize was my rx1rii.

Basically if you want something that can stabilize a heavier camera, it needs to be fairly large. Plus balancing these things with different lenses while traveling is a pain... This coming from a guy who brought a strobe in my last trip. I think if you want a travel gimbal, pick up an action cam and use that for stuff where there's a lot of motion.

Good news and bad news. Good news is I got a message from Joel Tjintjelaar on IG saying he was going to use feedback I provided on a recent post of his for his website. This is in regards to his new BW Artisan Pro panel. He also took the time and liked a few of my black and white images. :-)

Bad news is I lost out on a paid job to shoot a dental office. -? That's the way it goes sometimes.

That's pretty cool. I love Joel Tjintjelaar's work and I've seen a few of the ones you have done over the years that look just like his from that tutorial on B&W Processing with the luminosity masking steps. You have a created a few incredible shots like that. I have his tutorials and just recently got a 10 stop ND filter (Not sure if i need a 16 stop in order to get the backgrounds he gets or if I can get them with a 10 stop). The process seems pretty involved and I haven't had the time due to my two little ones (3 & 6) at home to really dive into it and try it out, but really want to soon. I saw he has his new B&W Panel and wondered if that could help with any of the steps involved in creating the different layers and luminosity masks required to create his images. Sounds like you tried it out. Is it worth the investment or should I stick to using something like Silver EFEX Pro to create the different layers and then the masking by hand? Figured you might have some advice since you have created similar images using his method.

I had the opportunity several years ago to be a mentor/teacher in a black and white community on G+, Joel was one of our guests for a month, it was great to get to talk with him, learn from him and hear about his process, he is genuinely a very nice guy. I was supposed to meet up with him and shoot in NYC when we were both there but schedules didn't work out.

Sorry about losing that gig, it happens sometimes...their loss really.

Got to shoot some AAU hoops on St. Patty's Day, and was definitely rusty. First time shooting basketball in years, but it was fun.

Speaking of fun, who doesn't like basketball coaches in 5" heels?

I use the v2 , no issues with my biggest combo, 12-24. I used it for a hyperlapse and it turned out well.

Don’t expect to use any GM lenses due to clearance issues.

I didn’t get the crane 2, felt it was a bit overkill with the weight specs. I was tired with only 6 minutes with the 12-24, and that’s well within range of weight (1800g).

it awkwardly fits in a backpack with gear, but due to it's weird shape, it kind of takes up a bit of room. You can make it fit better if you adjust the arms, but then you end up having to balance the gimbal on location, which can be a hassle. Asside from that, it's amazing if you have something in mind that you intend to shoot. Sorta have to plan out those things.

Thank you cc1995! You'll be fine with a 10 stop ND filter generally. I've only used my 16 stop a few times. If you have a Sony camera with the Smooth Reflections app, you can use that in combination with your 10 stop to get closer to 16 stops. The series that I completed a few years back took some time to get those results using Joel's other method (iterative selective gradient mask technique). Each one I did took anywhere from 6 to 12 hours to complete. His new B&W panel is meant to make this process more efficient because it uses more luminosity masking than creating hard selections. I have to run it through some long exposure images to fully test it out but I have used it on a few images and the results look good and the process is faster. I would say it's worth a look if you don't have the panel and if you enjoy fine art black and white.

Thanks Travis. Wow that's cool you got to talk to him and learn more about him.

First one from Brazos Bend while LR imports a ton of other photos...
I think it is a Little Blue Heron...not sure if the "Little" part is in the actual name...but what do I know. I sat and watched this bird for a while in the marshy area at the edge of the lake, and then all of a sudden he jabbed and came up with this Crawfish...big meal.

I would be using my primes such as 55mm, 35mm f2.8, 25mm and most tele focal length of 85mm batis.

Would it handle the 85mm batis?

Also, Could the gimbal be attached to the side of a backpack like a tripod?

Are you shooting raw only or raw + jpeg? Are some of the raws showing or only jpeg? Is your LR up to date?

Just RAW, on both the camera and LR/PS only some are showing up. The others can't be displayed.

Both LR and PS are up to date.

no problem with the batis 85 as the 12-24 is even bigger with no issues. With my backpack, it seems to work fine in the tripod mount area.
