CAFE' NOM-NOM

Red-tailed Hawk eating what appeared to be a large rib bone, (18" long or so) I couldn't see it fully, so that is my best guess. A Black Vulture was also there but he flew away after I drove up in my vehicle. This hawk stayed there for a few minutes and I stayed still, I just accidentally rolled up on him, I was only about 20 feet away. He eventually flew to a tree then I left him, hoping he would go back to it.

That is one of the most perfect shots of a hummer that I think I have ever seen - the detail, the colours, perfect sharpening, DOF - I'm speechless! ;-)a

the name of the thread is BEST...and while I am new to this...I think this is the best I have yet...combination of being able to get close, and timing meant for me capturing something unique...Great Egret fighting with lunch...that happens to be a snake that doesn't want to be lunch. I was really surprised at the defense mechanism of wrapping around the beak...it really worked...for a while.

Talk about capturing the moment! Great shot :-)

Agreed! Kind of hard to put into words, but it's awesome when all senses just kind of open up and then all of a sudden you find yourself finding more and more in places that you never once had. Maybe I'm just getting old...

Clay-colored robin, AKA clay-colored thrush, closely related to the American Robin. They are both of the genus Turdus, an unfortunate appellation for these beautiful birds... would be more appropriate to Canada geese!
