Sony Lounge Thread MKIII (All Sony cameras welcome)

Got the Crane Plus gimbal. Cant wait to give this a try on my A7r3.

If anyone out there is thinking about getting into wildlife photography for the first time, or know someone who is, it would be tough to do better than this Sony RX10 IV as a starter camera to see how you like it before spending the 5 or 6 grand on an ILC setup. 600mm equivalent with an auto focus every bit as good if not better than most DSLR's and full frame Sony's. This thing just continues to impress me.

TBH I was thinking of going this route but not just for birds basically for everything. Tried the DSLR and even 600mm was sometimes not enough and I’m no longer interested in or can afford long heavy lenses.

Was hoping I’d get by with the RX10 IV such that I could sell my A7R2 and 3 lenses - I could buy the RX10 IV whilst still holding onto the A7R2 + lenses for a while as the RX104 might be an impossible solution and cant afford to stay with the two cameras and would have to decide fairly quickly which way to go to recoup the purchase either stay with the old or commit to the new
As you can see with the text above I’m quite conflicted especially as I like printing A3 landscapes but also love birds / BIFs
Anyone care to chime in?

Well...I felt like a rookie with that space...I tried all sorts of stuff...I managed a few decent dance floor photos...and I think that is what's important...but there was nothing brilliant on my end!

Weddings are odd...there are chances for brilliant and creative image making...but they move so fast it can be tough. It feels more like documentary work with flashes of creativity...that sometimes fail and sometimes work out. This was a big wedding party too and that presented another challenge on its own.

If you do any kind of night or low light photography, that is where the RX10 and its 1" sensor start to fall short fairly quickly. I still use a Fuji system for a lightweight landscape kit, and kept my 7D2 and 5D4 as I still have a 500mm f4 for when I need that kind of reach with low light capability and/or am planning a full on photo safari. The RX10 is a great "stick it in the center console" camera to have with me at all times, and one I can handhold all day long. I'm going to see how well it works for auto racing next month at Sonoma Historic races where I usually carry the 7D2 and a 300 2.8. Will be an interesting experiment. Bottom line is that I have yet to find the "one" setup that can do it all really well.

The only thing I could suggest is to rent one from the fine folks at Lensrentals.com and see how it works for you.

New discovery, dslrDashboard will control/trimelapse/etc​. the RX10iv.
Also, Shoshone, def. check out Itsed's landscape work with the RX10iv....not shabby at all.
Ed, did you post any in this thread? The windmills?

Marketing my a6500 to a co-worker. He wanted to know how it does with higher ISOs.

I'm going to post a non-sony and a how-to for the new bierders/BIF'ers (Gene/Travis) here.
It is really really helpful to have you and someone else working together.
We spotted this Black Chested Eagle down the road.
I get Poof to drop me off.
She drives past the eagle. If we stop near him he flies and no shot usually and if so its a butt shot.
After getting well past him she stops the car and begins walking toward him, and in essence to me who is
crouched down in the weeds by a fenceline 180 away from her.
Soon as she crosses his 'barrier' he flies.
Often they will fly opposite the one walking to them, so I try to get opposite where she is.
It has worked time and time again for us.

I think I have decided that I don't like CaptureOne enough to keep on with it...trying to edit a couple of images from today's shoot while on the road for work, and its just frustrating me. I just can't get the colors to balance and tone out the way I want them to...so I gotta wait till I get home...good night shooting at the lake...and relaxing.

Do you perhaps need a more powerful editing PC that can speed up LR? Seems you express some frustrations with slowness working in it.

I like C1 a lot, but LR continues to have things that make it hard for me to put away. Can’t beat being able to jump raw files from LR to external apps like DXO Optics Pro, Photomatix, Autopano Giga, etc.
