Did you order the valve with the “s2” cable Gene? The site lists the a7riii under that cable type

Edit - never mind, I see you have now sorted it. I should have read ahead first :-)

Yes, I did Eddie, even though I had already ordered one through B&H as I wasn't sure if they were the same. The cable that came with the trigger seemed very loose and wouldn't go in very far so I tried the one from B&H and it wasn't much better. At least it is working although the connection seems tenuous at best. From what I can find on the inteweb, that's normal for these multi/micro usb connectors.

Glad you got it sorted Gene. The Pluto trigger does look interesting. I like the fact you can shoot lightning with it. Also the ability to shoot brackets from it means you don’t have to use the cameras in built bracket function which drops the raw from 14 to 12 bit on the a7rii (still trying to work out if that’s the case on the riii). The other thing that could be cool is the sound trigger. I was thinking you could fill a balloon with water and burst it with a pin and the trigger should hopefully be able to catch a cool shot of the water starting to escape the burst balloon

Yes. I'll try that. Thanks for reminding me. Question: How do I process stacks? I've not done stacking before (except for stacking camera/lens boxes...lol). Can photoshop or lightroom do it?

I read a lot of people saying they use Zerene for stacking. Never used it myself though so can’t comment but Robert (medicineman) might be able to offer some experience

Got into my jobsite town early on Wednesday, had time to go out and catch sunset...10 Stops with Formatt Hitech 6 and 4...I need to just buy the 10 already, the color is so much more true with them.

Lovely once again, Which format filters are you using. I am currently looking to invest in a set of filters for landscapes

Nice one Travis. No SR app used? Curious on your thoughts on that. Could a 6 stop ND + SR app have gave you a similar result without the need to stack?

My thought process went something like this...
With just 6 stops, my exposure was at 1 second, and while the water was fairly calm, the one second exposure still had quite a bit of texture in the water surface, and my experience with SR has shown me that I won't get that glassy smooth water surface with a bunch of 1 second images, it still has more texture in it. So I put the 4 stop on and got to 20 seconds. Truth be told, I had intentions of doing an SR stack of 16 at 20 seconds, but a boat with fisherman showed up just at the end of this first 20 second exposure, and they proceeded to camp out at those three trees, and the grove of them to the left....that are no longer part of the image. :-D. So I moved on, and was happy with this image as is, glass smooth water, and a little texture in the clouds.

I did do some SR series later and have yet to edit them, it took me close to an hour to remove all the trees from this one that I didn't have time last night to look at any others.

Also...I tend to use SR most when there is more DR...this scene didn't really have that, and getting the base exposure right was pretty easy. I would have probably done 10+3 to get to 160 seconds, but I can't stand using the Lee 10 Stop anymore, the color cast that used to be so minimal is so annoying now, and mixed with the FH filters, it seems to be worse. So a FH 10 Stop is on my to do list this week.

Thanks for the insight! I’m trying to talk myself into letting go of SR but finding it hard. Would like an a7iii instead so that the controls were the same over both bodies.

I won't get rid of it...there are elements of some of my architectural work that are just easier with SR...scenes with big DR, or fast fading light, its just too good. I don't mind the difference in bodies...but shooting the a9 next to the r2 sure does how how slow the r2 is!

yeah, for everyday stuff, and anything other than landscapes/architecture...I grab the a9. For several reasons. A major one being the file size. If I found myself doing more events, and r3 might pair better with the a9, I used the r2 so very little in the wedding just because it was too slow to focus and just not fast at all.

I'm looking forward to trying out other modes of triggering my camera as well. As far as HDR is concerned, the max shutter speed allowed is 1/20th for the mid-exposure so that feature seems pretty limited unless it's used in dark situations or ND filters are used.

Yes, been using Zerene for quite a while.
Ask away but before you ask me the amateur
go here:
http://www.photomacrography.net/ (external link)
Zerene can be used for a few different things but ultra super macro was
what it was made for. The site linked above has the experts in it and the guy
who wrote Zerene is frequent there.
99% of that site is above my head!

But speaking of. I did see a bee yesterday!!
I'm itching to do a 40x4 PixelShift stack.....gotta catch the critter first.
