Nice one Travis. No SR app used? Curious on your thoughts on that. Could a 6 stop ND + SR app have gave you a similar result without the need to stack?
My thought process went something like this...
With just 6 stops, my exposure was at 1 second, and while the water was fairly calm, the one second exposure still had quite a bit of texture in the water surface, and my experience with SR has shown me that I won't get that glassy smooth water surface with a bunch of 1 second images, it still has more texture in it. So I put the 4 stop on and got to 20 seconds. Truth be told, I had intentions of doing an SR stack of 16 at 20 seconds, but a boat with fisherman showed up just at the end of this first 20 second exposure, and they proceeded to camp out at those three trees, and the grove of them to the left....that are no longer part of the image.
. So I moved on, and was happy with this image as is, glass smooth water, and a little texture in the clouds.
I did do some SR series later and have yet to edit them, it took me close to an hour to remove all the trees from this one that I didn't have time last night to look at any others.
Also...I tend to use SR most when there is more DR...this scene didn't really have that, and getting the base exposure right was pretty easy. I would have probably done 10+3 to get to 160 seconds, but I can't stand using the Lee 10 Stop anymore, the color cast that used to be so minimal is so annoying now, and mixed with the FH filters, it seems to be worse. So a FH 10 Stop is on my to do list this week.
