the other day we were talking about green banding and what not...thought I would put this out there to show what I have been seeing when going too far with one file. This is not the first time it has happened.

On the left is the SOOC image that was intended for the lights and longer to get a little more movement in the surf suds in the bottom of the frame. The sky is too blown. But I tried to recover it just to see if I could...and got the image on the right. Close...but the sky looks like hot garbage. I am still working on the Lumenzia blend image...

Anyone using highlight metering mode on the riii? With highlight metering and +1-2 on the exposure comp dial it’s giving me great exposures with auto iso

Yes to Highlight Metering.
I figured it would help prevent blown out white feathers on a predominantly dark bird.
I did the 'internal' +1 associated with Highlight metering and then dial up another +1 when I feel the urge.

Is the internal +1 when you save the setting? I couldnt work out how to do that yet

Whilst further testing showed me that the CV40 1.2 was sharp wide open with good technique I quickly realised such a fast aperture manual focus lens wasnt for me with the things I mainly shoot just now i.e. family, so I returned it.

These are all with the FE55 which I am loving even more on the A7RIII compared to the RII for some reason. Not really sure why? Maybe the improved skin tones on the new body?

What would they do without electronics!

Really liking this one. I have always wished I lived in a state that had (more) moss covered trees. It can be found here in Colorado but not nearly as pleantifull as say the pacific NW.

The green tint in my image that started this discussion is the first time I noticed that effect. Actually, David A. is the one that noticed it and brought it to my attention.

Yeah, first time I ever saw anything like that either. I’m skeptical of highlight/shadow recovery as a cause because I don’t get chroma bleed like that except with noise reduction - especially chroma noise reduction. And I doubt NR was the cause for you.

Pushing shadows/highlights frequently produces ugly tonal halos, but I have no memory of chroma bleed caused by it. Might be interesting to try and replicate it in an effort to diagnose it...I’m certainly intrigued.

Here is some serious shadow pushing.
Don't ask me about the shutter speed--I'm still in the school who'll take
noise over motion blur.
Sun had dropped and this guy was fishing in a serious shadow.
a9 beats R3 for high ISO as expected with less but bigger photosites.

It’s such a wonderful lens. Going to miss it. OTOH, like Carlo, I’m just more of a 35mm/85mm shooter that I was having to mentally remind myself to use the FE 55mm instead of just reaching for it reflexively.

I bought it mainly for car meet type stuff but it has other uses too.....

These few shots were fairly local - Up over a hill & into the forest/woods. About 15 miles/30mins from home & I done an 8 mile walk that day!! I'll definitely be back there many times I'd imagine as that was my first visit so more of a scouting mission than anything!!

We have the Brecon Beacons not too far (you'd probably say they were local) at about 75miles/1hr40min in the car. I'd love to go there constantly but the time/distance etc just mean it has to be for a full day out to make the most of it & the weather has to be a perfect forecast too.

I feel I’m more of a 35/85 shooter too but since we have a lack of 35/2 or 35/1.8 I’ve ended up with 28/55 and whilst I have come to love both I would be all over a 35 between the two ones we have currently. I also keep looking at 35/2.8 and 35/1.4 on eBay constantly so reckon I’ll end up with one at one point, but will be keeping 28/55 regardless. I feel 35mm is a good one lens option too

Histogram in the camera also isn’t accurate as it’s based on the picture profile chosen for the jpeg and not derived from raw

https://blog.kasson.com …mal-in-camera-histograms/ (external link)

If your WB is way off for example the resulting histogram on the camera will not accurately reflect the exposure

Thanks for the links. My little experience with histogram has been good though. When i get to lightroom they’re all well lit unlike when i’m liveview dependent, when i import the files it shows a good exposure, for a second. Then it turns dark.

What would be VERY popular is a 35mm version of the FE85/1.8 - That's something that would sell out & be on backorder everywhere IMO.
