I was wondering if most people here view the forum on their smartphone or desktop? I mostly use my smartphone.

I would say 99% of my viewing here and Flickr is on my desktop computer and 27" monitor. The remaining 1% would be on my Galaxy S5 phone.

as part of a "Photography Fundamentals" class I am teaching this week...I did my own multi FL portrait test to show both the effect on the face and the background...it confirmed two things for me...the 135 will never go anywhere until there is a good Sony option that can do better...and the 85 is here to stay, the 50 is out...it will get listed this weekend...I used to love that FL and lens too...gonna hurt to sell it. Oh...and 12mm is not good for portraits! :p

Having just gotten the RX10 IV, this is the first photo I've taken of a bird that I like. I had to yell at my dog to stop walking around and pulling my hand while getting it:
So I'll also post a pic taken of him during the same walk...

Thanks for the info on where you view the forum guys. There were more desktop users than I thought.

Hopefully, those of you viewing this on a larger display can see the subtle light across this early sunrise shot.

Missed the poll.
Me too 95 percent desktop.
5 percent Samsung.
We are on average I'd bet an 'older' group, probably average age 42.
Older types tend desk eh, younger tend phone and pad.

you gotta consider the context of the 50, it's not really designed for half body portraits, that should be reserved for 85/135, and quite frankly, the 50 shot looks fine in your example. Selling what you love is doing it all wrong. 85 and 135 will typically be better for portraits, but their working distance can make it more difficult in space constrained areas. If you're selling it to fund a 35, that would almost make sense, but 35 has even more distortion, which isnt inherently bad.

You really should use an adult, because kids can look good with any of the focal lengths save 12mm, however, not the case with adults. Adults also have much larger noses, and that gets amplified more in these sort of distortion tests.

This image is why I view on desktop...on my phone this morning it looked too dark...but phones do that...on a real calibrated screen it is perfect, which is to be expected from you! Great shot, love the subtle light.

Yeah, for an outright headshot, the 135 is great, but I also like to do full length with it...it means standing further back, but I can shoot f2 and get some nice bokeh in the background.

Well, to be honest, part of the point was to also show the different FL and all effects, by keeping the head size close to the same in the frame, it meant I could show that wide brings in more distraction...as far as adult vs kid...the kid I can tell what to do, and she plays along...LOL...

And I think you are right about 50mm...I really should hold on to it and figure out another way to fund the FE35 I want...I do like 50mm for the right settings, and this one is a great copy...

99% desktop
1% Smartphone.

I just find you can't really appreciate the photos as much (Detail, color) on my smartphone. I equate it to watching a movie on a phone as opposed to my 65 inch TV...the experience is just more enjoyable on the larger display.

Beautiful pic as well.
