I've now been using the lens for a little while, and I'm very pleased with the results it produces in general. One thing, however, that I detest about the lens is the ugly bokeh it produces, as seen in this particular image. It's not just consistent with my lens but in others', as well. In order to produce great results with this lens, one needs to be a lot more "background conscious," especially at longer focal length (such as this one taken at 600mm), when taking photos and try to avoid a certain type of backgrounds that's prone to yielding this ugly bokeh that's extremely distracting.

With the right (wrong) conditions and background, this ugliness can happen.

I think it's a small aperture/IS thing. I've seen this on both my 100-400mm (more common) and even on my EF 500mm f/4L when I have a 2X mounted. (on occasion)

I think it is very dependent on how far away your background is in regards to the subject. I've shot a number of backyard birds on my deck, maybe 12-15 feet from the camera, and the background was bare tree branches (winter) but was 90-100 feet away. It blurs into just colors. It's better on my 5D4 than the 7D2.

How far were you from this subject and background?

Agreed, not just how far away the background is in regards to the subject, but how far the subject is from me, as well. This ugly bokeh seems to happen whenever I shoot at full focal length, i.e., 600mm. The rest is what kind of background the subject is situated in.

I was looking for a lenscoat type wrap for Sigma 150-600C, and the one I found was way too expensive with so many negative reviews that I decided on a $5 DIY alternative rather than rewarding the company that overcharges while skimping on quality. I don't need to cover up everything, so I like how it turned out. This is a "sample lens" thread, right? :-P

What is that you used to wrap it? It looks like camo cling bandage.

I think that’s exactly what’s it is.

It’ll leave residue after a while.
