I just ran into something US drone pilots might need to do further research on. FAA seems to be looking for a much bigger say in who can fly. http://www.modelaircraft.org/aboutama/writecongress.aspx (external link)

Reminder today of the importance of keeping your eye on the birdie.

I was playing with the “Point of Interest” flight mode on my Mavic today and thought I had set the distance far enough to clear a tall Poplar tree (you see where this is going right???)...

Anyway, to quote the infamous Agent 86 (Get Smart fame) ”I missed it by that much...” and gently plowed into the tree 66 feet up and getting hung up in a limb.

Tried to restart hoping it would break free, but no luck (probably a good thing...)

Thankfully I was able to find a local tree guy to come out and climb up to recover the bird which was relatively unscathed. Only damage was a small chip in one of the props and some scratches on another. No gimbal damage, no other signs of the embarrassing act. With the spare props installed it is good as new!

While not a cheap reminder ($150), it was cheaper than it could have been (gimbal damage or complete loss meaning $300-$800 for parts or new aircraft)

Drone trolling (external link) (in the fishing sense) would be an interesting concept. I wonder if it could work.

Taken at the back of work, pretty cold here & getting lots of fog in the morning. Lucky enough to get the rising sun & the rays through the fog.
