Tawny Frogmouths are not related to Owls at all, they have soft feathers, silent flight and are nocturnal but this is their only similarity they have. They have very weak feet and toes and catch their prey with their beak. They are closely related to Nightjars but are there own species shared with Marbled and Papuan Frogmouths.

When they open their eye's it is their way of trying to startle a possible threat, they usually have their eye open slightly ( a slit )

Owlet-nightjars are closely related to Nightjars and Frogmouths but again they are their own species.

Hope i don't sound rude Kev, just want to make clear for our friends overseas.

Not at all Shorty. That's wikipedia for you! -?

A Sage Grouse is definitely one of the birds I really want to see in the wild, posing like this. They just look so alien and outrageous.

Really liking your Goldfinch shot here! Hope you feel better soon, nothing worse than being sick in the Spring :(

Beautiful bird, beautifully photographed.

Thanks Matt! Working on getting better.....

Talking of in the wild, here are some from a local park last year.

I knew there was a family of two adult and two youngsters but it still took a while to locate them - here are the two youngsters.

sleep can be a problem at times... its 5:39am right now

I still seem to need my 10 hrs, even though you are supposed to need less sleep as you get older. But 02:00 hrs is OK for me, as I am usually just going to bed! With a little arithmetic, you will note that I don't usually do mornings!
