First attempt, focused on removing the shoot through fence.
Sort of worked, noticeable when you compare it to the original though.
Contrast adjustment, slight saturation only.

I also tried to hide the fence through dodge and burning along with a little bit of clone and heal patch to fix up some of the worst blur in the middle. Then in an attempt to draw the eye I to the batter I converted the image to B&W and really moved the colour sliders around. Then I did a slight bit more of dodge and burn to the whole image to again draw the eye to the batter and ball.
