5, she will be 6 in July but she is big for her age

I know that feeling...mine is 6 going on 7 in a couple weeks, and she is as tall as some of the 2nd and 3rd grade kids.

I'm never close enough to the stage to use this for dance recitals. I also like the versatility in framing that a zoom offers.

If I know I'm going to be reasonably close to the stage, I'll take 70-200 2.8 IS II; if I don't know, or will be further back, I take the 100-400 II. The lighting is usually enough that I don't need to bump ISO up beyond acceptable levels.

Thanks for the input..Trying to find a happy medium.

My thought process is that if you can move around (your subject or the stage), use a prime. If you are moves are limited, use a zoom. Of course, there are some situations that shoot holes in this philosophy.

With that being said, I use the 35L/135L 90% of the time.
