Just my second posting... BIFs just aren't my thing, it's tough to get anything shooting small birds in dense wooded areas. There is a pond by the woods though, and I thought I'd try my hand at some Rough-winged Swallows. Super huge crop, so it's nothing to write home about IQ-wise, but I shot this hand-held w/ my 5D4 + 500L II :-) Fast little devils.

And here's a Cattle Egret that I shot at Assateague Island last weekend:

From amazing captures, we go to this.
Hey... if it weren't for this, I'd never be able to post much of anything. Seems the light is NEVER in my favor.
Knowing the moment was fleeting - AP, snapping, change a setting, snapping, change a setting. I was just about to go full manual when this happened. This was the best in the series.
Be that as it may, I present to you ---

Incoming!

Beautiful shot such lovely lighting.

P.

Thanks Pagman. :) I was "fishing" for this shot actually.... I parked myself on a lonely dock with purple martin's flitting around above me and seagulls hunting, but I know that usually before dark at least one or two herons fly by here. I was not expecting.... just hoping and enjoying a quite relaxing sit. But he came..... :) To pass the time I occasionally wasted a few dozen frames trying to catch a purple martin in flight.

Regards

Mike

Rough-legged hawks are winter visitors to our area. I was able to get these images in early April.

After chasing down an Osprey for what seemed like 3 or 4 minutes, this Bald Eagle came up the winner after the Osprey dropped his meal !

Technically not a bird but I had to post this to show how impressed I was with the 100-400 II. Coming from a 100-400 I, there's no comparison between the two.

Both those are nice shots Tim! I've been trying for so long to shoot a rough-legged hawk. The few times I've seen them, I've not had my camera with me. :-(

Both of those are really nice shots. The 1st one is so cool with the bald eagle chasing the osprey, and the second photo is a beautiful in flight shot of the eagle with his prize.

Nice shot, and kind of humerus. The osprey in the nest is prolly thinking, "where in the heck are you planning to put that monstrous stick?"
