The laowa 10-18 can possibly replace the Leica. Looks compact.

Charlie, there is plenty to agree with in your post from my perspective. I'm now at a point where I have no craving for anything out there from a lens perspective, it's an odd feeling actually.

I've built a great manual focus kit built around a really nice set of Leica and Zeiss and VC M mount primes and also a fantastic set of native auto focus zooms and primes, really great place to be. My only regret is selling my Leica Tri-Elmar 16-18-21, it was such a compact lens, I miss it every time I go out with my prime kit.

I have the Canon Sigma 85 f/1.4 EX as well that I've been adapting with a Metabones for quite a while. I've been debating on selling it and getting the new Sigma FE 85 Art or the Sony FE 85 1.8. I would love the 85 GM but I think it's too steep a price since I don't really shoot much for paid gigs and seems too big an investment. I'm just hesitant to lose the 1.4. Just curious why you decided to make the switch?

Oh how does it perfom on your body? I originally planned to adapt it too but there was two reasons I decided to switch to the Sony.

First is if I planned on getting another Canon body later down the track, I would want the 85L IS. Since I'm building two kits I could get the Sony for something smaller and lighter and then the Canon to use solely on there.

The other main reason is size and IQ. The Sony is surprisingly small and light and you know how big and heavy the Sigma is. All comparisons I seen between the Sony and other lenses showed how good the IQ is for the price. I'm happy with my decision and don't have any regrets, but the bokeh in that Sigma was really amazing.

Saw this on another forum a little while ago and wonder if someone can explain this.

"1.4X would not work awith A7RIII and this lens, since it will kick it above F8 and A7RIII can only AF on F8. You would need A9." It was a thread about how sharp a Sigma 100-400 C lens was on the A7Riii.

"1.4X would not work awith A7RIII and this lens, since it will kick it above F8 and A7RIII can only AF on F8. You would need A9." It was a thread about how sharp a Sigma 100-400 C lens was on the A7Riii.

sigma 100-400 is f6.3 on the long side. 1 stop loss of the tc would put you F9, technically AF would be lost since the R3 can only AF up to F8, like the Canon 5D's and 1Dx's.

the A9 has the ability to AF @ F11, 100-400 f5.6 on the long end + 2x tc (-2 stop) = F11 on the long side. It can still AF @ F11.

Well I shot a 5Dmkiii that I sold today and didn't realize that. Is this even with native lenses?

if you shot the GM, you'de be ok, f5.6 -1 stop = F8

technically F6.3 - 1 stop = F9 however, you really gotta try it to be sure. it's been known that sometimes, third party lenses do some sort of trickery that allows for 1.4 TC's on 6.3 lenses to fake out F8.

if you're able to AF 100-400 + 1.4 on your 5D, which is only F8 capable, then there's already some trickery going on.

The EX series lenses did have a different rendering to the Art IMO. I actually preferred the 50mm and 85mm EX lenses but I am really loving this Sony!

They do, I still adore Sigma's rendering but the new Art series definitely sacrificed some of that specialness for sharpness, I have the original Sigmalux 50 for my 7DII and the 85mm f/1.8 is replacing it on the A7III
