Oh dear!
I can hear the value of my mk2 dropping by the minute.

But it doesn't affect the performance.

That is true, but me being a gear head now wants the latest and greatest.

It would be truly something if they can significantly improve on the mk2.

The Mark II is so good its hard to see how they could improve on it significantly in day to day real world shooting. But I'm looking forward to seeing what they've come up with. Additionally, I own the current f/4 IS version. For my purposes its a truly excellent lens and I've never felt it limited me in any way. While the new version may be "better", I doubt I'll take the bite.

meh, the old lens is plenty good, one of the instances where latest and greatest mean little.

It's like an updated 24-70 f2.8 iii..... it would mean very little as the lens is closely aligned with primes. they'de have to add IS to make it meaningful, but the 70-200's already have IS.

Canon is just going to improve on their profit. This lens will probably be very minimal of an update to the MKII but will cost i am guessing $2800

Didn't the II come in at something like 2399? 2299?

Canon isn't likely to change its price points for individual products, especially by nearly 20 percent.

Nikon released a $2800 70-200. Canon will not miss the opportunity to charge that either. If they dont list it at 2800 I will be highly surprised

I’m guessing the IS will be improved a bit and the coatings on the glass will get better.

Not sure they can make them smaller or lighter.

How much better can the optics get in both IS models? Are the current models not up to resolve 50MP images?

Okay.

But tamron and sigma are much more competition to canon in this category simply due to the fact that they actually make 70-200 EF mount lenses.
