Looks like you have never sharpened this?! So I learned recently learned that polished granite is amazing at a final sharpening on a blade.. FYI!!
I wouldn't use the house counters but it can be found..

A couple of spring flowers, hepatica varieties, I think.

At the time of the photos both were given a very quick pass on 2000-grit sandpaper and a leather belt, nothing substantial, and not enough to take the factory striations out. Just wanted to clean the edges a bit. I test on phone book paper because it shows me where the rough spots are, these were pretty good good factory-edges but I'm stupid and somewhat picky, so I just had to give them a quick redress. I don't use anything other than sandpaper and leather for sharpening and honing, unless I'm re-profiling, in which case I use a regular stone or my bench grinder. I'm very old-school, I learned how to hand-sharpen from a family friend who owned a sharpening business when I was a kid. He and his father could do hair-popping with a piece of sandpaper and a piece of cardboard. It was actually kinda scary just how sharp they could get a blade.


I can do scary-sharp but I try not to, most of the stuff I'm using a blade for doesn't require that type of edge.

"Pencil Guardian"

I carved and painted this character in 1987 out of bass wood, and he's sat atop many a pencil during the past 31 years. Time has certainly taken it's toll on him, but I'm sure he's still good for a lot more pencils.
