This is one of the first flowers of the season of turkey bush, Calytrix exstipulata, from the myrtle family. During the Top End's tropical dry season its masses of pink flowers dominate the shrubby understory of the open woodland country. Like many Myrtaceae it has aromatic oils in its leaves, which are quite pungent when crushed. Aboriginal people throw branches of turkey bush on the fire to release the oils and keep mosquitoes away.

Beautifully done Kevin. The red against the black is stunning. Ya just gotta love that Canon 100-400 lens. Anyone trying to get mine will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Sibil...That beautiful orange color of the flower against the soft green background is stunning. I love it.

Truly a georgeons! The water droplets add so much to the shot. The flowers really pop...such an eye grabber.

Thanks Mike. Plenty of regrets about parting with mine but the shoulder hasn't come good yet so it would only be sitting in the cupboard nowadays. At least I'm still shooting with the m43 and catching up on PP.
