Wikipedia says chipmunks usually forage on the ground but will climb trees to get nuts and acorns. Maybe you just need to go where the trees with tasty seeds are.

May 21, 2018 16:00 | #18 I have the big Squirrels do stuff like that. I had to prune a lot of branches on the tree the bird feeder was on, I watched a Squirrel climb up to the feeder, open the top and then climb inside and stuff its face.
