Amazing shots. Did you use any type of flash with either shot, or are they both ambient light only?

I hope the new Canon "7D Mark III" will light up the AF squares in RED like the 1D X Mark II

I agree with you. I skipped the 1DX and my two cameras are 1D4 AND 1DXii because not having the red squares in the viewfinder really did not work well for me in a lot of lighting situations. I like my active point to show red as it is easy to see in any situation.

I have both cameras, yes, I understand the cameras are not equal, the image quality is though.

I agree. But that for sure doesn't make them equally good (to use), which was the reason for my post.

agreed

and both are very close in ISO performance. I took some 16000 shots o the 5D4 this weekend and they are as good as the 1Dx2

I was able to test this 5D4 a bit more at last weekends wedding. Its first real wedding outing.

Put the camera in AV mode and let it do its thing end of night just to see what it would do.

Here are some 16000 ISO shots straight off the camera. They are very clean. I was impressed. 1Dx2 is a little cleaner but not much. However the 1Dx2 AF is much better especially in the dark with AF and especially servo use. 5D4 and 1Dx2 I dont need focus assist with speed light use. They both hit easily. 5D3 I do need focus assist

I have zero reservations setting ISO parameters to 25000 on either camera. Both are killer clean

these are 5D4 files at 16000- straight off camera captures

I became a new owner of this amazing kit yesterday, can't wait to try it out at my sons' rugby matches today. Have a feeling I'm gonna have a lot more files to go through than usual.

Outstanding camera, it will be instant love! LOL It is an absolute pleasure to use so much so the weight becomes a non-issue (if that ever crossed your mind) Once you have had the pleasure of owning a 1D series body you will find it difficult to shoot anything else!

Wow, you guys were right. I ended up with wayyyyyyy more files than I'm used to after 2 games of rugby. Definitely found an improvement over my 5d mkiv for shooting sports - AF more responsive and obviously the speed is not even comparable. Only thing I prefer with the 5d mkiv is the ability to crop more when necessary. Here are some samples from this morning.
