Very nice Lester. I especially like the first shot. That is a beautiful little bird.

Do any of you guys handhold the 600 or is it strictly tripod only? I have a 500/4 II and handhold it almost exclusively and I was wondering if an upgrade to a 600 is on the cards for me in the future, especially as I am contemplating selling my 7D2s and getting a 1DXII or another 5D4.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I use a monopod in situations where a tripod would not be practical.

I don't know why, but I have never managed to make a monopod work. It seems like I am always rocking the damn thing back and forth. I am doing something wrong. Do you put your arm over the lens, hold the monopod between your feet, or do something else? There is something wrong with my monopod technique that I can't quite nail down.

I hand-hold all the time for birds in flight and airshows. The 600 II is about the same weight as the original 500 IS, and most people considered that to be hand-holdable.
