I've switched to Sony twice. Hated it. Now I'm thinking about doing it a third time.

Out of the super telephotos, 600mm is the least sharp lens. 500mm is sharper.

For almost a decade, most of the world's most successful full-time professional wildlife photographers relied on Canon's 600mm f4 I.S. v1 as their primary long lens. . I have had many conversations about this lens with some of these guys, and not one has ever complained of it not being sharp, relative to their other long glass.

I suspect the problem was not with the lens, because everyone else seems to be able to get excellent results with that version.

300/400mm f2.8 IS ver I were sharper than 500/600mm f4 IS ver I and i believe it is same with the IS ver II models. Not saying that 600mm wasn't sharp, it was plenty sharp from the results I have seen. I only had 300mm f2.8 IS I and 500mm f4 IS I.

Level of sharpness between 300 2.8II, 500 f4II and 600mm f4II are on the equal terms. Unless your lens and body requiring AFA or user error then obviously your photo won't be as sharp. Bear in mind also that the DOF would be small to it is crucial to focus where you wanted to be. I used 500 f4I and upgraded to 500 f4II and it is noticeably sharper than mark I.

I am happy to shoot mirroless. None of this focus adjust stuff. Even at f1.2 you nail focus all the time.

You remind me of when I bought Tokina's 11-16mm like 3 times.

Although, my triple buy was due to liking the lens each time but needing cash a couple times. The third sell was when I bought full frame.

Would it matter to list what's most important and desirable to you for several things, and decide what camera fits that part the most. For me, I found that I like a larger body unlike where mirrorless are headed. So that's a big factor for me now. Although I have one mirrorless for an extra, I discovered I do not like an EVF.

Among all the cameras and lenses you used, did any particular feature or function stand out more than anything else?

So far with the sigma adaptor You cannot get autofocus video while I have noticed the metabone with some settings can acquire autofocus in video with the Sony A73 using canon glass.

Since I’m currently using Canon lenses with the sigma adaptor with the Sony A73 I still feel that single shot is not nearly as good as a Canon 5D Mark4 with movement involved.

Static subjects adapted canon glass is actually good in performance.

I will need native glass to be fully happy with my Sony system.

I have a wedding and baby event coming up so the Sony/Fuji is definitely staying home. It’s about my personal comfort level in the confidence. Adapted Canon glass is still not nearly as good as Sony with native glass.

I too have switched to Sony A7-family systems twice in my life (plus once to the Sony a99 'SLR') and then sold them. In 18 years, I've had dozens of different systems...LOTS of Canons (which is what I started with in 2000...a 3MP D30)...too many, overall, for me to remember. I now have an M43 system based on an Oly EM1.2 with excellent Pro-series lenses, but, looking for more resolution without fooling with the side-effects of pixel-shifting, I just ordered a Sony a7R3, three Loxias, and a humble Sigma telezoom. All previous times, and I over-simplify here, the bodies were either too small for my mediumish hands, which required batterygrips, or they were too big and heavy. This time the '7R3 body is (possibly; I hope probably) slightly larger in the grip, and some brilliant person has designed an angle-plate with room for a pinky finger. I'm hoping the SmallRig plate...

...will be the magic I need to fall in love again. I'm praying that the '7R3 plus smallgrip plate will feel as good in my hand (and be no or only slightly heaver) as the EM1.2 with grip; we'll see in a few weeks. Meanwhile, I'm staying away from heavy telezooms and at least starting with the humble Sigma 70-300...

It seems you are sensitive to the speed of operation, AF, etc.. In that case, I strongly recommend getting a decent native lens for your Sony A7 III so that you will know how its AF performs with a native lens and how much you are missing compared to using adapted lenses. I doubt your adapted lenses will perform well on A7 III compared to a Canon 5D mk iv and that experience may frustrate you one more time.

The Sony 70-200/4 G OSS arrived today and I took it out in the Phoenix-summer heat. (Only 106dF this aft. ) I'm VERY satisfied with its pics; it's definitely a keeper. The V'lander 40/1.2 Nokton is arriving tomorrow.

Of course, A7iii is 6k oversampling from FF sensor vs 2.5 crop. He should have compared 1080p on M50 and 1080p on A7iii.
