Funny thing is, boat racing is the exact reason I bought this lens. Even though it is only 1 race a year around here.

In honor of the moon landing anniversary, I shot this using a Canon refurbished 400mm f/5.6 L, Tamron 1.4 extender and a Canon refurbished 7D mrk I, Friday night 7/20/18. Love this lens.

Very nicely done. I do like the way that you have Tranquility Base centered in the shot (intentional or not).

Thank you. I'd like to say it was intentional, but I can't.

I should probably crop these off the top more? I like to keep a proper aspect ratio. But I realize boat racing may require different crops.

A bit long for the zoo, but since i sold my 70-200, this is the best quality lens I have. It does have it's uses though!

Nice shot, Cormac. That 400mm prime lens is the first L series lens I bought, many years back. I still have it, and still use it frequently ( love that ol' lens). For birds (especially BIF), it's invaluable. But at the zoo, I can sure see where it can become frustrating for the large animals at times.

Frustrating, but also useful. It's a local zoo though so I've used all my lenses there. Not like I "miss" shots. I already have em! Lol. Anyway, yea, it's a great lens. I just wish I could afford the 2.8!

To be honest with you, the 2.8 is one heavy sum beech for an old fart like me. I bought the 300 2.8 (original version) many years ago, when it was affordable, and have found this lens to be a true gem. It's a bit heavy, but not so much that I can't handle it (hand hold). On a crop sensor camera ya get the equivalent of a 480 mm lens.

It's a great lens for surfing competitions, as well !

It was...interesting shooting this long a lens at an NHRA event. Albeit limiting as well.
