Question for you, can you tell the age of the snake based on the layers of rattles? (I may be thinking rings of the tree here and probably way off).

.
No, it doesn't work that way.

Rattlesnakes gain a new rattle each time they shed their skin, which they may do one or more times per year. . They can break rattles off, and there's no way to tell how many broke off ...... which further separates the rattle count from age.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Hey Tim!
The shot is great. Love the work, colors, lighting - the only part I can pick on is really the pose. It is a good pose but not a GREAT pose. The hands are a bit awkward, not natural etc. The smile is great, the shirt is wrinkled. I am distracted by the rope next to her head.

I can picture this girl sitting in the middle of the dock or standing - I would shoot her from a step ladder a bit higher. I could also picture her sitting with her feet hanging over the dock shooting her from down further getting her in center with feet by water. I would also have her walk the dock towards me as I was on a ladder shooting down giving her something silly to think about as she approaches with a cute smile, capture images to get the perfect one. Lots of options but only one killer shot that captures the breath taking photo.

Thanks for sharing Tim!

That's a fine shot. To my taste on my monitor a bit of subtle dodging on your model's face allows the rope to lead to the subject rather than compete.

Overall, is this one were mine I'd be working hard at dealing with those blouse wrinkles. You and the lady deserve better.

Hi Terry,

Ok, let me give you my first impression, boring, not well executed, next. I understand exactly why you took the shot and there is potential in there. There is a lot to love but when I see a photo I want to "feel" something. This photo is not exciting and for me does not immediately inspire me or give me any sense of wow.

Personally I think the focus of this photo is really the house and the setting. There is actually too much going on here and nothing exciting. The shot of the house is not executed well and the angle is not right. This shot could have worked but it, like many other shots, require a lot of work to do so. The tree in front of the house takes away from it. There are a few things that could have made a great shot, but it would have required tons of work. Good shots don't really happen they are deliberate. You have to take into consideration a ton of things. I look at the end result of my work (the photo image) as the way to convey a story, emotion etc. Look deeper into what you shot, don't get wrapped up by what "you" see but find a way to tell a story, with emotion if possible. Set up the shot, this means work. It may mean getting up at 4am to take this shot. It may mean getting permission from the homeowner. It may mean getting others to help you with lighting etc. There is a ton of work that goes into great shots. There are times when we fall into the perfect shot but believe me setting yourself up for success is a true winner in the end.

Thanks for sharing - thanks for putting up with my two cents.

Scott

Finally, someone with an honest critique/opinion.......thank you. As for any rebuttals, none are offered as I don't make excuses.

Again, thank you for your two cents and it was very much appreciated.:-):-):-)

Tell me what you think of this one

Client is a construction company that wanted hero shots of their workers on the job. I used a couple flashes for a main and kicker. Dont think that flair is fakey fake. Ive had a lot of peanut gallery critiques on this one but I wanna know what the master thinks. Fyi the client liked it

Hey Dan,

It is a very good image. Well done but for me there are a few things that stand out. The lighting/reflection/lights on the left of the image are a bit distracting. They are cool but take away from the subject. My view is that these should complement the subject and not detract, in my opinion it is distracting - you can always soften the lights a bit. The other part that I see is the harsh shadows on the face. One item that should be rock solid is the subjects face/eyes etc. It is a cool, creative image but with a little refinement could be a true killer image.

Thanks for sharing and keep on making sh*t happen!
