I do photography just for fun but at the same time, I know some folks might want to buy prints and if I can get to a place where I recoup a little of my cost that would fantastic. My Son set me up with Zenfolio and a domain name. I'm at a loss on how and what to present on the site.

Any thoughts, criticisms, and suggestions would be welcomed.

You present what you want to sell - that could be any image that you think people might want to buy (shoot/sell for others) or it may be only a handful of images that you think are your best/speak to you/have meaning (shoot/sell for you).

If you are selling event photos then you show as many photos of as many people as possible in order to maximise the chance of someone buying. If you are selling images as art (art nudes, street photos as art, architectural art etc) then you only show your best work and self edit brutally.

Of course having a site and showing stuff doesn't mean anyone will buy it - people actually have to know you/your site exists. That means you have to have a marketing plan to make your target audience aware of your existence.

Thanks, I'm not a good self promoter but have ordered business cards to hand out at events if anyone ask for them.

I would suggest to separate the "here's what I offer" and "browse the galleries" parts clearly, simply the page layout, few best photos as non-slideshow to front page. It would be good to have some info how you work, what are your goals and how you think and shoot.

PS. when starting a promo page, leave visitor counters out. It's not a good press to see "4 visitors" saw a gallery.

I believe I got the number of visitors removed. Playing around a bit with the layout. Zenfolio is a bit odd to work with at least for me.
