Ive just got the 18-150 for my M50. Although most of the time i will use my EF-S 18-135 USM Nano i like the idea of a small all M traveling set up.
The 18-150 fits the bill perfectly. I really love how small and light it is. It’s nice not standing out with bigger heavy gear and much nicer to transport around on a day out walking about.
IQ is ok. Nothing spectacular compared to my other lenses (not even the 11-22), especially at the long end, and being STM it’s slower to AF than my 18-135, but IQ is definitely usable and i have no real issues with it if i take in to account how convenient it is. At the long end its a bit soft, but looks fine unless i crop in too much. It reminds me of how my old 70-300 used to look over 220mm, and a bit liek the 50mm f/1.4 wide open. A bit dreamy but cleans up well.
F/6.3 kicks in at around 60mm, but in good light that’s a not a big deal for me, taking in to acoount its just really for holidays in hot places, and having a more or less constant F stop (all bet it a slow one) helps keep things a bit more predictable when zooming in and out.
Ill use it only when i really have to, but i wont hesitate to pack just this lens when i go on holiday to a sunny place.
I know this lens gets a bad rap, and i don’t disagree with that to an extent, but its still a lens that takes good photos and offers a lovely range for something so small.
