For months, I've bounced back and forth between the Tamron 150-600 G2, and the Sigma 150-600 C lenses. Today it's the Tamron, tomorrow it'll be the Sigma. One of you folks is just going to have to make the decision for me. Image quality is one of my main concerns (obviously cost also), but depending what I read it's hard to know which is really the right one for me. I understand that both lenses are great so HELP!!

I've been watching both threads for quite a while myself. Though less people here own the Tamron, I am seeing more consistent results... plus the photographs seem much better to me. I have to finish off paying for my new camera..... then I will probably pick up the Tamron. My 100-400ii with the 1.4X is promising... I need more time with that combo. It gets me close to 600mm.

Kim...Thank you for your input. This week I'm leaning more towards Tamron. :-)

This is based solely on logic, vs,. any idea what this lens is like 1st person, but it seems to me that when Sigma released the C, it did so knowing it HAD to be better than the first gen Tamron, which was a few years old at that point. Otherwise, why bother?

And it was better in pretty much every way.

Well, why would Tamron bother with the Gen 2 if not trying to knock Sigma off the top of the heap?

P.S. I own and love the Sigma! :)
Never tried this lens.

Super nice job. That new Tamron 150-600 G2 is working out nicely for you. I've been comparing the Tamron to the Sigma, and I really like the Tamron because of it's light weight. I almost always hand hold (or use a monopod), and the Sigma is awfully heavy. How has it been doing when shooting out to 600mm? Is there image quality loss?

Sorry for the delay... To a answer your question..I do find that the lens is definitely sharper around 550mm. I have spent many hours trying to get birds in flight around 600mm, but find that 550mm is where I get my sharpest shots. Hope that helps...

Bought one for my wife (mainly for our next trip to Canada) she has only had a couple pf hours to try it out but so far she really loves it - so much lighter / smaller than the Sigma, locks on lightning fast and the test's we did at the showroom - little sharper as well.

First of all. The G2 is amazing. It's lightweight, sharp wide open, great VC and wonderful bokeh.
Here are some pictures from my last trip to the Eagle hide this year (Feb & Mar).

THIS is one of those "money shots" you hear people talk of, if you are lucky you get at least one and this is without a doubt one of those shots. I really hope it is printed large, framed and on the wall!!!

Thank you, Cory put a few up on her Zenfolio page although you can't really see them very large (will see if she can show larger versions) she really is impressed which is a high praise indeed - trust me ;-)a

Link to her shots for the Tamron is HERE (external link)

Thanks again

Hey Guys,
So I was finally looking to upgrade my 7D and of course my first choice was the 7D II but after doing some research I thought it might be worth trying out a full frame body. I decided on the 5Ds-R after reading and talking to a few photographers that said the 5D had slightly better IQ when cropped to the same frame. The main reason for the upgrade was for AF enhancements but I still wanted to have the same amount of crop ability that I was accustomed to with my 7D And I thought having all of those megapixels for other styles of shooting would be nice. Well After taking it out for some test shooting Ive found the IQ to be similar to my 7D when cropped to the same frame. When pixel peeping the 5D is a bit sharper and the Higher ISO shots are cleaner. The biggest improvements have been the AF performance when shooting with this lens. Its much faster to lock focus especially on the long end which I found the 7D sometimes struggled.

Heres some test shots . I will say these are really tight crops and im amazed at the amount of detail this camera can resolve

Oh yes, I think your statement is valid! Awesome images! I too am tossing back and forth between the Tamron and Sigma for my D7500.

Thank you for posting!
Andrew

Thanks alot Andrew. Thats a tough decision as they are both fantastic lenses and you would be hard pressed to pick one over the other based solely on IQ. I do appreciate the enhancements made to the G2 as I used the first generation of this lens for quite some time and the few gripes I had were addressed . (AF performance, Zoom lens lock, Build quality and weather sealing)

Rehype - Really great sharp examples, Cory and I are hoping to get out tomorrow for a good day's testing weather permitting.
