I am going to be shifting my focus now to Lifestyle Family Portrait. I came across the CL workshop of Elena S Blair and i love her style. I love her mindset.

Check her out

she care less about the technical stuff, blown out background, not everyone in focus, not even the look of the subject but the feelings, emotions, the joy and the story.

checkout her portfolio.

just watched Dustin abbots long term review of the a73..

i'm curious what you guys think of his statement that the a73 is giving much better skin tones than the a7r3

of course i'm not asking based on the picture he provided ,, I can see a difference there.. i'd like to know if anyone is seeing a real difference in everyday use
That is if anyone here owns(ed) both..

I know there was a huge difference I noticed immediately when I got the a7r3 vs what I got with the a7sii.. so I know sony is continuing to improve in all areas including sooc color accuracy

I notice the a9 is much better than the r2... would not surprise me if the r3 and 3 and even better.

I think it may be a white balance thing. Was shooting both R2 and R3 over the weekend and SOOC, the files often look different, but doing a batch process, they turned out close enough that I couldn't distinguish which shot which.

It’s amazing what xx50K worth off from shot to shot can do to skin tones

Her technique is on point though.

What stands out is that in lieu of hard "grip and grin" posing she's loosely placing her subjects and capturing their natural interactions, and the use of the environment to tell a story...a lot of wider focal lengths.

I actually strive to do that as much as possible with family shoots and engagement photos. A lot of it depends on how much your subjects can pull it off....also probably how good the photographer is at getting your subjects comfortable enough to simply be themselves...which I need work on :-)

I would love to get to do more of this kind of work...its a matter of finding the right people for it...because in the end, it is really about what the family or client wants...I have discussions and dialoge with them ahead of time to get an idea for what they are after...

her website represents her style. so i'm guessing anyone who inquires knows already the style they're getting. she decline clients who don't wanna do her style. she educate her clients a lot about her style even before booking. in her workshop she said, she's telling the parents upfront she'll do all the directions. she tells them not to tell kids to look at the camera. she don't even ask the kids to smile. she said if they smile it's because they are happy in the shoot not because they are told to smile.

she'll still do the looking and smiling shots for the heck but she's not posting it in her portfolio.

most of the family portraits that got a lot of good comments and likes of what i've done so far are the candid ones. that's why i'm leaning towards it. wish me luck. doing model calling now in fb to get more of the same style for my portfolio.
