Found this little one on a recent trip to investigate a new (to me) birding area in the region:

Aren't they a gorgeous sparrow? I saw and photographed my first just a couple weeks ago too. They are they only member of their genus and it shows; they don't look much like other sparrows, IMO. Anyway, congratulations on a good bird.

Thanks Al; it's funny you should mention that. We were rolling along and watching it move from post to post and the conversation was (me): "Can you tell what it is?", (her) "I think it's a sparrow of some sort.", (me) "it seems small and sort of moves like a Lark...maybe a Horned Lark?" til we finally got eyes on it through lenses :p

Thank you, Will! Do they normally stay to the brush/ground?

Good shot, Eric! Like the pose and the various shades of one color (to my eyes, anyway). Well done and congrats!
