Good eye! I didn't see that. I hope you're right! For $1700 it BETTER come with a foot.

For $1700 I will keep my current version, Canon prices are getting too high. Canon is making lots of room for Sigma and Tamron to steal market share. I can almost get the 100-400 L version II for that kind of money.

Speaking of which... am I the only one that is shocked that Sigma hasn’t made a 70-200 Art?

I gotta say, these prices are a turn-off for me. Maybe the official release will reveal something crazy enticing but right now I’m not seeing anything that makes me want to bite. I mean a brand new 70-200 f/2.8 II is $1800 with rebates right now. Only $100 more for a 2.8?

The new lenses are bound to be more expensive than the current versions, but I'm waiting for the official announcement from Canon USA to see pricing. Photography equipment is frequently more expensive in Europe than in the US. Instead of doing a straight currency conversion from Swedish Krona, find out the list prices for the current lenses in SEK and see how much more the new ones are as a percentage. That may give a better idea of what to expect in the US.

Tweak the existing design a bit, maybe improve the coatings or make the IS half a stop better, and a lot of people who might think of buying a used v2 will instead buy a new v3 so they have the latest and greatest.

This doesn't make any sense to me at all.

The type of people who are looking to buy used are not the type who are likely to buy a newly released model. . The used folks are those who love it when current models are discontinued, because then the used prices go down even further.

Those who want the latest and greatest and those who habitually buy used are polar opposites.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

If this is true, it's going to put even more downward pressure on used 2.8 versions.

Which is awesome.

I like the updated pricing.
However, I feel it is too good to be true.
Wasn't the f/2.8 version II $2500 when it first came out? If this is correct then the $2800 figure seems more likely than the $2100 figure.

Fingers crossed on the $1300/$2100 prices :-(

I think you missed my point, which was that, as long as v2 is the current version, and a used v2 costs 25% less than a new one, many people will be more inclined to buy used since it's the same thing and costs less. Once there's a v3 out, before those start to penetrate the used market, a lot of buyers will opt for a new v3 instead of a new v2. I didn't say all.

I agree that the used price for a v2 might eventually drop after the v3 has been shipping, making it more attractive. The 2.8 v2 is a great lens from what I read here. It won't suddenly get worse just because a v3 is released.

The way they spc’ed out the vIII is a little disappointing on paper. 3.5 stops of IS?!?

It makes me think they have another lens coming. Something that will be the king of the line. IDK, I just get the feeling they have something special in store for a $3000 price point.

Would a DO 70-200 make sense? Better IS, smaller and lighter ... all the things the III isn't, and they could price it way higher.

Looks like they just changed the lens coatings. Is that it?
I can't find a picture of the element groupings though.
