Canon EOS M5- Share your pictures, thoughts, loves, concerns....

I have some older glass, Helios, Minolta, and Canon FD that I have used on my M5 in the past with adaptors. I took the Minolta out today and couldn't get the shutter to release. I've Googled but the suggested fixes don't work. Going into function to enable shutter release without lens. I can't see it as an option, but perhaps I am looking in the wrong place.
I have used this lens on this camera in the past ...

Any help/advice much appreciated!

After extensive Googling I found the answer!
You need to change one of the Custom Functions Settings to allow the camera to release the shutter with no lens attached.

Press the Menu button.

Go to the Custom Functions tab in the menu.

Select "C.Fn II: Others."

Go to the third item, "Release shutter w/o lens".

Change that setting to "1: Enable".

Went for a walk after work. Needed more ND filters, or more cloud cover, to get what I really wanted from this but still, turned out ok!

Not enough for the conditions, unless I wanted to stop down more (and I didn't, didn't want to tempt diffraction further).

But seriously, I was using a Hoya ND400, a 9 stop filter.

If I had a 10 stop filter like some other companies make instead I'd probably have gotten the exposure length I really needed. Oh well!

All the same, I like the texture in the water in this case. I was already shooting with +1 stop EC, doubling the exposure time may or may not have improved it any.

i suppose I ough to have said - what system as I don't have any that small diameter for screw in.

Oh!

While I do have a Cokin x series system, I was just using a 58mm round filter and a step up ring to mount it on the 11-22.

I keep the closest matching size in the bag with my M kit, it'll fit all the lenses in the bag with 3 step-up rings so it's easy to carry. I just realized I don't have a polarizer in the bag the other day, but I do have 58mm 3 stop and 9 stop ND filters.

With a manual Minolta MD lens. Focus peaking such a bonus. Bike track where I walk often.

Took the manual Minolta MD f/1.7 for a walk today. All f/11. Flooding at Pakowhai after an absolute deluge over night, somewhat receding now.

Haumoana - hadn't been here for a week or so. Couldn't believe how much debris has been washed up in last week's storms. A manual Minolta MD 50mm f/1.7 at f/11, lens.

Oops, somehow I bumped up to f/18 for this shot but still worked out okay @ 1/40th. This 18-150mm is a great lens

Nice. I keep thinking about this lens as a walk around for holidays, but have the range covered with my other EF - M lenses, so wonder if it would be a waste of money, or just a problem with GAS!
