If definitely the autofocus, I just tried manually focusing and got a much clearer shot than with AF. I’ll play with front and back focusing now but it seems to be a distance issue. It’s tack sharp up close, but can’t do it with a far subject.

You should photograph a meter scale at a distance to check if focus is on the spot you placed the camera's AF point

Nothing too scientific but playing around more last night I think it’s significantly backfocusing. Going to try and find a 1.3mm Allen and attempt to fix it tonight.

I've got a 1.3mm allen hex key coming tonight annnnnnnnnd another 5dc coming next Thursday. eBay is running 20% off today and i cant say no to a $250 5dc with grip that has the mirror fix applied (current camera does not). So going to hope I can fix the focus and if so I'll probably flip my current one.

Despite my focus woes, I’ve had a couple good recent shoots.

Yup, but both fairly close. As soon as I go for full body it’s off focus.

If problem is towards infinity maybe there is a loose element in the lens. The motor can catch near objects but it;s too long a trajectory for infinity...
