Some previous deals to consider. ;)

....

Lastly, this one was also in June,. so we may be up for a new sale soon;
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1462619

Wowsers, that's good deals there!

I think I'm convinced.8-)
Simply watching for the sales, I could easily grab a quarter of the ink at a time
and get free paper with it, or do some heavy stocking up with the buy 1 get 9 deals,
or a combination of both.

Many thanks Jake, for posting here.

I haven't caught many of the ink/paper deals from Canon, but now have way more paper than ink. The problem is that I'm trying Moab papers now too. I've actually given some of the Canon paper away to friends with the Pro-100.

But I do like the paper just fine and will be happy to use it up.

As for giving away, we donated one of the printers we got free in a bundle (or the camera was free, you decide)
and I donated our 3rd free printer to work along with boatloads of free paper. Now I use all of the above for work projects, or student projects, the university only has to re-supply ink. Win, win & win.

So, the printer arrived today, and it even included a 5-pack
of Canon Pro Luster 8.5x11" paper. I'll get to see how I like that
after initial setup.

Thanks for everyone's input so far; it's very much appreciated.

Still glad to have the thing, though it pisses me off to miss these damned deals
by a day or two.

Shame it's a mail in discount, and thus not available for those ordering from outside the USA. If I could get a propper delivery quote easily The B+H price could be OK, It's only £231 not bad for a printer that is £299 +20% VAT (£359) here in the UK. The delivery charge is likely to be closer to £100 once all the fees etc are taken into account. Even if there is no import duty, you still have to pay the 20% VAT on the total cost, including shipping, and the carrier charges a fee for that, which also attracts 20% VAT too. Plus the cost of the carriage it soon mounts up. So in the end for stuff that is available here in the UK it is usually easier just to buy from an authorised UK retailer, and get the full EU warranty, and sales of goods legislation protection, which for manufacturing defects is at least 6 years. If one could get the rebate then all the hassle would be worthwhile.

Sorry you missed quite such a stonking deal.

Thanks for commisserating on my woes, Alan. -?

I'm still glad to have got the thing for (ultimately)$119, rather than $319 or more.

I found an OLD packet of HP photo paper that came with an equally old
cheap printer; it included two 8.5x11" sheets of glossy and the same of a heavily-textured
'fine art' rag or matte and two envelopes.
I've printed to the glossy, and both were great.
It took some looking into output settings to get it to resize, but the second print is
really excellent.

As an owner of four of these printers, my recommendation is use Canon papers and Canon ink at first.
Red River is an outstanding place to get many different types of paper. Remember to use their profiles.

I highly suggest you use Canon inks, always, and not the off brands fill ups.

Check out some sample packs.

I have bought sample packs from Red River, Breathing Color, and Ilford. Breathing Color gives you the pack for the price of shipping if you giver them an email address, which I was fine with. BC and RR have two pages of each of the included papers. RR marks paper type on the front of the paper, so you need to print with about a half inch border. BC places a sticker on the back, which can end up transfering some ink to the face of the next page. The Ilford packs are a little more limited with only 4 types of paper each, but come with 5 sheets of paper with no markings.

I have been turning a paper addiction into an inkjet paper finder on my blog: http://peterholdmann.com …ment/inkjet-paper-finder/ (external link)
