I'm surprised that the A7III doesn't track that well with Canon mount lenses. I have an a6500 with the MC-11 adapter that I pair with my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II for the close shots. I rarely shot more then 2-3 burst in sports, as I favor more timing technique, but I've had good success with it and I would think that it would be better on the A7III. Here is a sequence from a game that I shot in the stands as a fan... I do have a 6 shot sequence with all being in focus if someone needs to see it.

thats not tracking forward to back thats just tracking side to side and the focus point never really changed much especially at that distance. Try tracking 85mm 1.4 from a person running at 90' away down to 20' away toward you. Big difference tracking that.

Luckily I don't do much tracking but I guess that is something to keep in mind moving forward.

lateral, you can probably be fine, it's the forward motion that's an issue. With the past R2, you can track @5fps, however with the R3, it went backwards, tracking is limited to continuous low (3fps). At higher framerates, it will only track the first frame. With the MC-11, there's possibly a compatibility issue or maybe talley's adapter? My local shooting buddy has the 85A and I might even test it out if we go shooting over the weekend.

Well considering I cover just about all the local HS sports in my area, I have a pretty good idea of what it can do. I've shot soccer with a Canon 400mm f/2.8, Sigma 120-300 f/2.8, Canon 85, Sony 85, and a Canon 24-70 and it tracks better then you think. It's not as good as native but it will do more then 1 shot, I promise you that.

Pretty sure Talley is referring to a NEW tracking limitation with the A9/A7iii/A7riii

AFAIK, past bodies never throttled adapted tracking, however the new bodies do. It's a step backwards! It's the one area where my older A7r2 outperforms my newer A7r3.

That was my initial reply, that I was surprised the A7 III or RIII didn't do better. I was considering one but this may make me pause and get another 1dx. Sorry to stir up anything. I'll leave this thread to you guys now.:-)

My A73 came in today. I only had a couple minutes to try it before I had to leave. It’s quite small.

Life's so busy ....can't remember if I posted big bird flying over Grouse Mountain!

More I use my Canon 70-200 I understand it's limited to slow moving to static subjects. This particular photos I was pleased but it was certainly tough to get shots like this. I know my Canon 5dmk4 would have had substantially more keepers with this canon glass.

I've had my a7iii about 2 weeks now, and I'm quite happy with it.

There's few things I don't like about it but it does the job inside and outside and, unlike my previous camera, tethered shooting works as well as transferring images via wifi to mobile.

I'm finding that the rear screen is move accurate to the scene and matches my computer very well, but the EVF has weird, washed-out colors. This is my first EVF ever, so I don't know if that's normal or not. I'm still so used to an optical viewfinder that using the EVF will probably be my preferred method of shooting. I like using my eye.

I haven’t noticed that on mine, but I’m used to the EVF in the Olympus E-M1 II, which may be a bit more saturated and contrasty than the Sony (I haven’t compared the two side by side directly).

There are a couple of menu settings you can tweak (brightness and color temp) to maybe make it look more natural for you.
